Back in the early 70's I could dial a certain 4 dig.number and quickly hang up, The phone would ring back, Drove my sister crazy:confused2: I don't remember if I ever told her about that trick
good thing for me wasn't a caller ID back then

That's interesting. I remember back in the very early seventies, the wife and I lived in an apartment about a quarter mile away from my father-in-law's place, but somehow he (local volunteer fire chief) was able to get us an extension on his line to take calls for local fire (outdoor burning) permits. As I recall, you could hang up the line, dial a four-digit number, and it would ring again so we could answer it. Probably not possible these days.

I was sitting here perusing some of the posts on TBN and the telephone rang. I picked it up, and the caller ID said it was from ME! In other words, it was my home phone, calling my home phone...it gave my own name as the caller and my own telephone number as the origin! I answered and got a dial tone. I was a bit scary, to say the least. We had a storm last night and lost power sometime during the night, but I have no way to know if that was responsible in any way.

Anybody have any ideas?

I could have written that post two weeks ago, except for the storm part.

We have VOIP with Comcast.

It is puzzling.

Don't answer or you may be seeing him before you intended..I personally knew a female installer that was calling the boss to let him know she wanted to abandon a cable splicing job due to nearby lightning strikes. She did not survive to end the call. When I was a kid one of my schoolmates mom was talking on the phone during a storm and was killed also from a lightning strike. Don't talk on wired phones during lightning strikes. The risk is very low, but it Does happen.

Next time, go ahead and pretend that you're answering the call. Open your eyes really wide, drop your jaw, and in a subdued little voice say, "You were partially right dear. It is God calling, but it's for you!"

Same thing has happened to us too on Comcast VOIP in the last two weeks.

Same lightning story when growing up in PA in the late 60s - stone farmhouse, my dad was on the phone in the kitchen, yes party line, and lighting hit nearby and almost knocked him down - never again would we answer a phone during a thunderstorm.
