Re: Welcome to \'Rural Living\'

cool guy, I assume you're talking about the John Deere gator? I don't know much about them; have one neighbor who has one and likes it (of course, he also had a BIG new John Deere tractor). My brother and another neighbor have Kawasaki Mules, and IMHO the Mule is far and away a better farm and ranch utility vehicle.

Re: Welcome to \'Rural Living\'

why do you say that, bird. the military has tested atv's and found that the gator held up better for their purposes than the others. then again we know that the military has never made any mistakes in equipment.

Re: Welcome to \'Rural Living\'

I certainly had not intention of putting down the gator; I figure it's probably a fine machine, but my brother looked at both before buying the Mule and went with the Mule; 4WD, 2 speed transmission, ROPS, differential lock, power dump bed, rated for 500# on the seat, 800# in the bed, and pull a 1000# trailer. And I couldn't believe some the places we've gotten into, and out of, with it (including through water almost up to the seat - the air intake is at the top rear of the hollow ROPS). And after I took a rancher neighbor on it to check out a fence line in rough country, he promptly went and bought one just like it. I've also noticed that American Airlines uses a bunch of them at D-FW airport, but of course, all they need is the 2WD models, both with and without a cab.

Re: Welcome to \'Rural Living\'

Cool Guy,I was told by an atv dealer that the gator and the mule are both made by Kawaski...He sold neither so I can't see why he would make it up..We were just bs-ing when I stoppped by to look at 4wheelers.He also said the mule usually sells for a bit less.If it were me I would check the web sites and or try to find brochures for both and compare specs....If they are the same I'd go with wich ever I preffered or could afford.I would say they are both probably good machince...Why would a company sell somthing that would hurt thier already solid reputation...Good luck....

Re: Welcome to \'Rural Living\'

I have driven and used both the 5 wheel gator, and the 6 wheel gator and have found them to be good, dependable runners. They don't get stuck very often, and do not tear up turf. They are slow!! Now, we have a 6 wheel gator, and traded the 5 wheel in on a new Polaris Ranger 6 WD. WOW!! This thing is awesome, rides great, goes up to 40mph..safely. The Ranger goes any where, you should drive one to compare. I think they price around 9000.

Re: Welcome to \'Rural Living\'

While I admittedly know very little about the Gator, I too understand it's powered by about the same Kawasaki engine as the Mule. There is now also a new diesel Mule. I haven't seen one; only a brochure, but my brother tried one and said he was amazed at the rapid acceleration and quietness of the engine. I don't know how the fast the Gator is, but the Mule has a top speed of about 25 mph. And if I sound like an advocate for the Mule, it's because it just seems like such an awesome machine to me. I don't sell, own stock, etc., so what I really recommend is to go look at both, drive both, and buy the one you like best. And I really don't know anything about the Polaris mentioned in another post, but if I were in the market, I'd go look at it, too.

Re: Welcome to \'Rural Living\'

Bird,I aggree completely.....AS for the gator and the mule..like you i can only pass on what little I was told when I asked at the one dealer and what i've read ....Bird,speeking of polaris have you seen that monster oof a 6x6 WOW...!what monster.....both the four(6)wheeler type and the mule(gator) style...man I talked to a fella a couple of years ago that has a 4wheeler style 6x6 and he said it would do close to 60mph!!(may have been pulling me leg...:).Thats moving for that type o' 4wheeler...plus it has about 1k pulling ability...unfortunatley it has a big price to go with it.Last I checked around 9k....! I would just (If I had my 1st 1 yet) buy another tractor....and pull a trailer for hualin around the place....

Re: Welcome to \'Rural Living\'

Thanks for all of the input. I had heard of the wolf, but not the Polaris. It will probably take alot to get me away from the Deere, I have dealt with the dealer for years and his service is outstanding.
