Weld on FEL Hooks

Yet another 'I welded on hooks post'. I thought it would be fun to see what you all thought, and what I did wrong or did not think of. I kept the hooks centered since this is a small machine. The low back hook will give me a bit more lift capacity and visiability over the top front hook which will be used most of the time. The FEL is on a B7510 so not much lift capacity to start with.
Here it goes, cut out some backup plates, welded on the hooks and sanded off the bucket paint....

The 'air file' is one of my more favorite tools, it can remove metal, wood, paint etc, fast or with a fine belt or feathered throttle it can be very gentle.

Next time, take all of the paint off. I left the paint that would be under the plate but away from the weld. It smoked when heated and caused a bad weld, which I ground off and did over.

.. Painted Orange and off we go..

I did this quickely enough my wife did not see me sneek off to the barn..

Where did you get the Dynabrade file Asgar? I've looked at them online and they are pricey.

I found it in a pawn shop for $40, they are $300+ if you buy new. Could find one on Ebay perhapse...

Great job on your bucket hooks. They are a very handy addition to any FEL bucket.

Thanks, I painted that hood almost 20 years ago when I was doing a lot of fun projects. I was pretty seriously into Stick/Mig/Tig at the time.
I painted the same thing under the hood of my 80 wagoneer (Died at 17yrs / 175K miles from rust but ran great) that I had completely rebuilt, engine, axels, trany/trans, electric etc.. The idea was that at least when I had to pop the hood to fix something I could show off the art. My dream (lack of talent killed it) was to paint a paridy of the sistine chapel / michaelangelo / Adam / God / fingers pointing painting on the cab roof of my Ford pickup, the image would be looking up from under a creeper and seeing the underside of the car, Adam would be in coveralls wiggling his outreached hand for God to put the wrench into..
