?.So far , the miller thunderbolt stands out ac/dc?.At welding school we have mostly all Miller?I stopped and got a cheater and the guy recommended that model?I've got an old Lincoln AC tombstone but I need to upgrade?'ve been considering an imported brand as I was told the USA welders are using foreign parts?e nice to get a welder that does various things?Stick Tig Plasma Mig etc?ut the most important thing is stick (and price)?I rebuild old tractors and have 4 farmall Cubs and 2 fergusons and an old gravely?Right now I am rebuilding a 48 cub and will mount a henderson loader on it?The loader is off a Super A so it needs some welding modification?Any recommendations would be appreciated? Thanks Dave:)

I also used to have an old Lincoln Tombstone AC welder many many years ago, but sold when I got laid off. They are good welders for what they are and their retail cost. I replaced my welding machine void a few years later with another Lincoln Tombsone, this time an AC/DC welder. It has held up very well for me and versatile enough for most stick rods that I use. I used to work for a place that had several of those old Lincoln AC welders for their employee's to use. They are good dependable machines. I talked them into a Miller MIG machine when I joined them since I was doing most of the welding. I love MIG wire welders (true gas welders), but for the home welder, they can be pricy. The flux-core wire welders might be OK for small stuff, but I'd rather have a good AC/DC stick welder for my cheap home use. They are pretty much bullet proof. Miller welders were usually the machines most businesses that I worked for had, except for one very ancient very large Lincoln generator welder one business had for a "have welder will travel" work. My welding school back when I learned 40 years ago used Hobart welders; also very good machines. I discovered I can plug my little Tombstone welder into my gasoline generator and be as mobile as I want to be too. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the name brand manufacturers like Miller, Lincoln or Hobart.

Seriously though, it speaks well of the Everlast Welders if you are impressed with them.
Let me see if I can explain this, I'm not real good at communicating with the type written word.

God only knows how many different welding machines I've run in my life. On a construction site sometimes its not so easy to move a welder around. So you grab one that is close to the work you have to do. In my experience, some welding machines make it so easy for you, you start day dreaming while welding. It's like driving a car, do you really think about driving, or do you think of a million other things? Other welding machines make you work for every inch of weld you put down. They're like driving a car with a lot of slop in the steering. You best pay attention at all times. I'm lazy, I want the welding machine to do all the work, so I can think of better things. ;)

I don't want to hijack this thread, but my son is taking welding course too. I plan on purchasing welder for him to use and projects for me to. I know very little about welding but have a few close friends that are iron workers and pipe fitters. They had never heard of everlasting and recommended miller to. When I showed one of them all the threads in the welding section On everlast he clicked on there website. He seemed impressed and started asking more questions about them. He thought we may be better with a gas welder as we have a farm that it will be used at (at times) besides at our home.

I think an oxyacetylene torch is also a must have. With it you can cut, heat, weld and braze anywhere you can roll your gas torch, but next in line and very close behind it in "must haves" is a good electric welder. The stick welders, being the best bang for the buck in my humble opinion, but they all take some skills, practice and a steady hand to to produce decent welds.

One of the reasons for the high proportion of "everlast" posts might be that Mark of Everlast is a strong presence on here and in May of 2014 Amazon sold the EVERLAST PowerArc300 for $269, instead of the normal $589.

A lot of us jumped on that deal, very few complained. If I had been smarter I would have bought a dozen.

I also jumped on that deal (thanks to Shield Arc), and I couldn't be happier!!!!

Newbury, I remember reading the threads on those two deals. I can only hope that something like that comes along again before I'm ready to purchase. Mark, Amazon, are you listening? Lol. Mitchell, I agree, we will purchase a set of torches too. If the members here approve, I also would also buy a dual voltage, combination welder (rather than a gas/ generator welder). The plasma capability is what you want to be stand alone, correct?

.Well I bought the bullet and invested in a used Miller 280 Cst Mainly because that is what I am now using at welding school .I am impressed with it there and bought the welder and new leads for a shade over a grand.it also has TIG capabilities.. if I was more experienced I'd know what to look for in other brands ( such as ever last) but this seemed like a good deal so I took it ..Thanks to everyone for their input..I'll let you know how the welder works out its got a 30 day guarantee so I guess I better do some practicing..Thanks Dave

I know this is hard to believe, but I know more than once, we've replaced CST's with the Everlast PA 200 not only in individual sales, but in customer's fleets. The CST has been improved. We have our new 280STH which also gives it a run for the money with the most current version.
