?.So far , the miller thunderbolt stands out ac/dc?.At welding school we have mostly all Miller?I stopped and got a cheater and the guy recommended that model?I've got an old Lincoln AC tombstone but I need to upgrade?'ve been considering an imported brand as I was told the USA welders are using foreign parts?e nice to get a welder that does various things?Stick Tig Plasma Mig etc?ut the most important thing is stick (and price)?I rebuild old tractors and have 4 farmall Cubs and 2 fergusons and an old gravely?Right now I am rebuilding a 48 cub and will mount a henderson loader on it?The loader is off a Super A so it needs some welding modification?Any recommendations would be appreciated? Thanks Dave![]()
I also used to have an old Lincoln Tombstone AC welder many many years ago, but sold when I got laid off. They are good welders for what they are and their retail cost. I replaced my welding machine void a few years later with another Lincoln Tombsone, this time an AC/DC welder. It has held up very well for me and versatile enough for most stick rods that I use. I used to work for a place that had several of those old Lincoln AC welders for their employee's to use. They are good dependable machines. I talked them into a Miller MIG machine when I joined them since I was doing most of the welding. I love MIG wire welders (true gas welders), but for the home welder, they can be pricy. The flux-core wire welders might be OK for small stuff, but I'd rather have a good AC/DC stick welder for my cheap home use. They are pretty much bullet proof. Miller welders were usually the machines most businesses that I worked for had, except for one very ancient very large Lincoln generator welder one business had for a "have welder will travel" work. My welding school back when I learned 40 years ago used Hobart welders; also very good machines. I discovered I can plug my little Tombstone welder into my gasoline generator and be as mobile as I want to be too. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the name brand manufacturers like Miller, Lincoln or Hobart.
