I'm trying to make a pigtail adapter to plug into the 50 amp 250V outlet on my miller bobcat 250 welder/generator so I can use my bobcat to run a 230V mig welder. I connected 10/4 wire from the male adaper (Ground/red/black/white connections) that plugs into my generator to a 250V/50A receptacle that only a connection for a ground and 2 hot wires. Can anyone tell me how to make the correct connections to 250V receptacle? Thanks

What I've got is Trailblazer and the way I hook up the plasma or suitcase mig to it is with an adaptor I made from stuff right off the shelf at Home Depot.

I used a preformed two twenty fifty amp four prong plug pigtail. It's what you use to hook up an electric stove. I then wired a fifty amp welder's plug receptacle at the loose end of the pigtail.

Keep in mind you have two hots and one ground/neutral on the welder's plug and two hots and a neutral and a ground on the stove plug. So you run the hots to hots and the ground and neutral to the ground/neutral.

Thanks for the explanation but I'm still confused. I did the same thing you did only bought the items from electrical outlet store. Miller wants $100 for their adapter and the parts cost about $30. The 230V/50A welders plug only has 3 places to connect wires; one for ground and one each for red/black hot wires. What do I with the white wire? Thanks

The white wire is your neutral. You put it with the ground/green wire in the welder receptacle.
