Welder question

I have a miller blue star, 180 amp DC stick for the super heavy stuff.

I have a HF 90 amp flux core wire welder for the lighter stuff.

The HF does a great job, easy beads and easy to use. I paid $89 and love it. I've welded 1/4 with it. Would I want to trust that weld with my life, nope. Was it good enough to get my riding mower up and running, yup, sure was. Just takes multiple passes and patience.

Great little welder, liked it so much I bought my brother one.

I've found nothing easier to use.

Over they years I've amassed several welders ususally for a particular project/job that I needed to do. Always tried to envision future jobs so to make a smarter purchase. What I've boilded it down to is a HF 90amp flux core with a minor modification to allow a longer duty cycle. Will comment that it welds great as long as you use quality wire (lincoln seems to be the best). I picked up a lincoln 140 because I thought it would make a good addition. A Miller Econotig for stick and tig work in the shop and an older bobcat 225nt engine driven welder for those times when I need to work outside and weld heavier metal. I can also use the HF unit for outside on lighter stuff.

i agree you need to decide what you are going to be welding and the quality of the weld you need if you are welding sheet metal a lot then a cheep welder will probly be ok if you are getting into 3/16 and 1/4 inch than a good quality unit is the way to go. even if you are looking at a 120v unit. spec sheets do all look pretty close to the same. they do weld 3/16 and 1/4 ok if they are turn all the way up but then you are maxing out your unit and running on the top end of your duty cycle all the time and it seems that you put a lot of wear on welder by doing that. that is just my opinion. and its like every thing else evey one has one.
