Good info J_J, I remember some of that from reading the manuals but it's good to have a refresher coarse in plain language :)

Yes thanks for the info. I have a "sponge" for the wire and it's not rusty. Is there any type of lube for the liner? What is the best way to clean it?

I can't remember what the lube is, but next time you are near a welding supply, ask for the cleaner and lube sponges. I believe mine had 6 in each bag. I will surf the net and see if I can find them. You had mentioned that the wire stopped at some angle, it must have a kink or bend in it, and I would suggest a new one, the correct one for the size wire you are using. I am thinking that ..030, and .035 use the same liner, but .023 and aluminum use a different liner.

I have some type of anti spatter lube in a spray can that seems to help keep the gun end clean.

Update - Yes, I upgraded.

Installed a 220V recepticle in the garage this past weekend. I ended up getting a Lincoln Pro-mig 180T. Wow - what a difference. Smoother, crisper arc, and it feels kind of nice to dial heat down, instead of up to the highest setting all the time. No more tripping breakers and I can actually have to radio on while I weld!!

Also, noticed there was a a lot of going back an forth on this thread about welds between a few folks. Well, I tested my machine - welded 1/4" steel plate to 1/2" plate, hit it w/ the sledge hammer about 30 times and did not break. So the weld was fine :D.

Currently using .030 wire CO2 / ARG gas.

Thanks for your feedback.

Sounds like you have a handle on things. I am sure you will do more projects now that you have a good welder. I have the Lincoln 175. I would go ahead and put those cleaner and lube pads on the wire , and it will keep the liner clean and lubed longer. It is much cheaper and convenient to use the 11 lbs spools. Did you notice the switching lugs for flux wire inside the cover? The manual will tell you how, and when to switch them. Good Luck
