Will a small mig like the hobart 140 weld aluminum without a spool gun and is there a spool gun to fit the 140. I am not planning on doing much aluminum but thought it might come up once in a while

Any of the 115v mig units are capable of doing a tad bit of Aluminum but you need a teflon liner and due to wire feed speed restrictions, You can do 1/8" no more no less. Use 5356 030 wire and argon gas. Won't work well but it is possible..I have done it when I was limited to a 115v unit. Good luck..

I had a Lincoln SP125 that I did some Aluminum welding with. It did a pretty good job but tight bends in the cable would cause problems. Also when you stopped welding the wire would melt up to the tip and sometimes stick to it.If it did stick and you tried to weld it would create a birds nest. I was able to weld a scag back onto an outboard without having to take it apart. The savings of repairing it myself justified the cost of buying a new tank full of Argon.
