I used this vid when helmet shopping:

I bought a low-end Miller ~$80 and used it for years.
A few years ago bought a Harbor freight unit on sale for ~$39 and it
sat on the shelf for a few years (in the box).

Then tried the HF because I was teaching someone to weld,

It is substantially better than the Miller.
You don't have to turn it on, it is solar powered, needs no battery.
The Miller has been on the shelf for a year now.

Be aware....Solar powere helmets do have batteries... IF not exposed to ligh to keep internal batteries charged, the batteries die, and unit will fail.... I will not buy another unit that does not have replaceable batteries....

I've heard that.
This HF hat was stored in the dark for years.
I've never paid attention to it's battery and it has worked fine.
That's about all I know.

My less expensive Metal Man hood, solar powered had two batteries sealed in AD unit.... Unit failed over time, tried to open up unit to troubleshoot battery issue, mistake, unit is sealed in such a way it gets pretty well destroyed trying to open it.... Contacted Metal Man, they have replacement AD unit that takes 2 AAA batteries.. IT also has "grinding" setting which old unit did not have and battery test button and all the usual AD "stuff"...

Solar, with replaceable battery on mine.

Have the AH260 antra as well the batteries even lasted over 2 years for me.

The antra is also a 4 sensor hood and works with every welding method has a grinding mode and even works for plasma cutting as well as low amp TIG which is accurately triggered with this hood.

In the future, for the benefit of others looking at this thread: Don't forget to look at the Jackson products. Most of them have an "old school" look. But they are good as they come on lens quality and features. Plus they are almost always easy to get on cover lens and replacement batteries (many have triple A).
