Welding question on BIY

Thank you for clearing some stuff in my head up. So my best option would just BOLTING them :(

I always see people have Welding them on their Tractors, Boats, Motocycles... Maybe it's Steel Diamond Plate?

yep.. lotsa steel on tractors.. especially if you see running baords and suxh with a check or similar pattern.

IMHO.. for structural connections.. I wouldn't solder them.. but rather bolt.. etc.. ( if dissimialr metals ).. etc.

you wouldn't believe all the naysayers.. some called me a downright liar.. some stupid. some said I faked the pis.

so I took like 20 pics showing the steps, using the propane torch, clenaing.. soldering step 1,, soldering step 2, and then joining all the dissimilar metals to that one aluminum bar, then inverting it and what not to show it was not a trick of angle or some thing.

mind you this is a slder connection and as such is only as strong as the filelr metal..e tc.

Lots of oil pickup tubes in old tractors hav ethe tube silver soldered into the pump.. so hard solder on steel, I alrady have done / had good practice with. and those allow solder rods that are good for aluminum and zinc alloys.. well.. once you read the rod contents you know what you can do.. ones I have now ar emostly zinc, with some aluminum..e tc.. couple other metals inthere too.

knowing what all zinc will stick to lets you in on what you can and can't join.

havn't had much luck with chrome yet ;)

LOL, if they can't see the Joint, they need their Eyes checked, LOL

Yah, some of the Metals can't be as strong but YES it can be done.

I also found something in life that would make me Rich, i'm in the Process of doing it. But yes, to most people they said it can't be done and it's impossible. It took me 6+ years to get it to where I am at right now. But to most they said it can't be done. But you know what, it's the Negativities of people that they believe it can't be done. But when i'm Rich and Signing my book, and they stand in line it's when I know I succeeded. All in all, I do things for myself, and NOT for others and can't please everyone.

Chrome i think there has to be a way to Fused them, but just a guess.. Anything is possible... :)

hek.. look at silicon bronze process..

Thank you Soundguy  Picture is PERFECT!

I guess I'm gonna have to try it :)

Soundguy and I agree that aluminum can be brazed to steel but I would think twice before committing to brazing a piece of aluminum diamond plate to a steel tractor. It would be far simpler to get some steel diamond plate and just weld it. You need to have a really good reason to 1) add aluminum to a tractor and 2) engineer and execute a brazed joint between aluminum and steel.

There are some excellent articles on modern brazing methods on the web. NASA uses it, lots of electronic devices use it and it is far far more than just using bronze rod and a flame to join steel. Induction brazing, vacuum brazing, brazing in manufacturing where specially molded and formulated brazing material is added to parts during assembly and then the whole part (in batches) is put in an oven to reach brazing temperature. Big structural things need to be welded but smaller stuff is very commonly brazed during manufacture. With appropriate joint design it can be just as strong as a weld and doesn't require as much heat so doesn't risk distortion and other problems. Brazing is much more important and common these days than most people appreciate.

yep.. I would't go for scabing aluminumon it either.. I'd bolt or go steel DP for sure.. adn weld it, depending upon application.
