Welding Question

   / Welding Question #41
What type of wire are you running
If you are using a 6011 equivalent wire it cleans the surface and dig's a little as you weld for a better weld but it spatters more than a 7018 type wire

You also maybe using improper technique try welding stringer beads using different travel speeds or wire feed speeds
The amount of stick out is important when using flux core try a longer or shorter stick out length

Have you guys never used 6010 rod this is a pipe liner root weld rod but is also used for repair work because of its cleaning ability 6011 is close to it
6010 has only a thin cellulose flux and is used with a whipping technique
and it takes practice to learn
It is the rod you will use when you go to welding school in welding 101

From what i have read on a lot of the forum most of you guys need to go to welding school not to be nasty or a know it all i am being neither

Mig welding which the designation was changed to GMAW by the AWS some time ago

When welding with CO2 puts it welder in short circuit mode which is for welding thin metal less penetration and is cheaper

When using ARGON and argon mixes put the welder in axle spray mode which is for welding thick metal and it cost more but gives more penetration
