Thanks, definately some stuff to investigate & consider. Might try to weld up some similar sized 3/16" scrap with a reciever & see how I can or can't pull it apart with it welded to a beater tractor impliment on the tractor. Try to pull it apart with the winch in the reciever on the truck.

Off at a conference for a week, so probably not poking at it super quickly.

This is what i did with my car trailer. Alot of those front bars are not very strong. I pulled on 32"x20ft long white pine logs with this setup. The 9.5k winch will drag the tow vehicle in 4x4 before it will stall the winch.

I use the reciever to hold a spare tire when no winch is in it. I dont use the winch much anymore but is **** handy.

question, is the front stop/metal on the front of the trailer strong enough to pull from ? or do you need the winch braced elsewhere

That's the root of my question. 3/16" plate bent 90 at the top & stich welded to either some tube or angle at the bottom. Given it's a tilting deck the front of the deck ends up about 7' off the ground & way above anywhere I'd mount the winch forward of the deck. I could put a pulley on the deck, but that still adds stress to similar parts & adds more moving parts.

ok that being said, i would cut a hole in the wood floor, put in a receiver hitch tube and drop it in the hole - u can weld the receiver hitch tube to the cross member underneath and weld it till you are sure it will NEVER fail no matter what you are winching and add support under there also as needed and no worry about messing up the pretty paint, not only that when you put the 90degree piece of tubing onto the winch receiver you can make it long enough to drop down in the hole and not have to worry about pinning it as it will bind with pressure and not pull up/out of the hole, if out are worried about that, leave 3 inches of square receiver tube with hole sticking up from deck and you can use it as an anchor point with a blank receiver with ball left out and use hole for strapping something - much easier to repair/replace wood too than mess up your pretty paint!!!

it also looks like board #7 would be the center of the trailer - center of the spare tire - i would place the receiver piece you weld to the trailer on the tongue side so as you are pulling things up the trailer you are pressing the welded piece of tubing/receiver into the cross member rather than pulling away from it - you can brace accordingly as desired.

also with your battery 7 feet below don't forget to make plans on where they will go if you want to route them special

3/16 with a bend at the top may be stong enough if it was only 12in across but yours looks like its unsupported across the whole width of the trailer.
A 12k winch will bend that into a U shape and not even slow down.
