Welding with a battery charger????

Went to harbor freight today, had my 20% coupon in hand. Laid little welder on counter and the girl says sorry, cant use that coupon on any welders. Took welder and put back on shelf. I did a search for 1/16 308 welding rods and decided My buddies project is on its on. I dont know if I will regret not getting the welder in the future. I aint needed one that small in 50 years, dont see any other real need for it in the future, but I sure was wanting to try one out. Time to start practiceing with the tig. Watched a ton of Mr Tig's youtube videos this wkend. My buddy should have a ton of scrap by now to play with.

Whats the worst thing that could happen? You'll probably just ruin a good battery charger or then again you might burn the shop to the ground,,,,
