Well Hydrant

Just got a quote today for well hydrant - $1150 installed.
Does this seem high, or about right?

About $410 for the actual hydrant hardware (1" x 4' FROST FREE, MI APPROVED), $100 in fittings and $40 in pipe. The balance of the quote was labor.

It was interesting that they quoted a "non-approved" Woodford FROST FREE design that I could install myself for $120.

Anybody ever had a well hydrant installed or installed themselves?

That price sounds a bit high to me unless its a couple of thousand foot run /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif for the pipe (although plumbers labor ain't cheap). For about 50 bucks and some digging (you can buy them at Lowes) and install it yourself. Kevin, I have one that I installed right on the well casing. I drilled out the top of the pitless valve, and installed it there. Spent about $150 for one that was 1 1/2" instead of the 3/4" that most places sell. I use 1" ID hose to flood my ice rink and can put out about 10 gal. a min. Took about an hour to install. I can post a photo if you would like.

I have a 4’ frost proof that was put in my barn over 30 years ago. I have never heard about a Michigan Approved Hydrant. I did check out <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.simmonsmfg.com/online_catalog/hydrants/index.html>Simmons Manufacturing</A> web site. They have a sanitary yard hydrant that cost over $500.00. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif This may be the Michigan Approved Hydrant. /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif
