Your heat salamander should be pointed at the wheel. If you get that steel warm to touch, it will radiate like,.. well,.. a radiator to the inside of the tire where the frozen water it. It will conduct the heat/warmth efficiently.
Tires don't conduct well. Just be patient. The Thanksgiving turkey analogy was a good one.

Actually the fastest way to thaw anything is to run water on ice. If you can break the bead, stick a garden hose in there and turn on the water and let it run. Of course you need to have a place for all that water to go and hopfully you won't have a big ice rink by the time you are done. They do the same with frozen turkey if you are in a hurry by changing water every 30 mins. The water is warmer then ice so will melt it away.

Sure, roll them in the house...just make sure you park them on the dining room wood floor!!!!! Then you will want to break out the old shovel to move the snow as you will have to keep warm somehow after being thrown out!!!!

I had mentioned tarping like making a tent. Keep the flames and torpedo intake away from the tarps, though. We have unthawed truck blocks, frozen brakes, artisian wells (blow the heat down the well shaft to thaw pipes, etc)
BP Flick is right that a nice temp over freezing will do well for you. It is not exciting to watch, but it will work. Some ice flopping around wont hurt the tires. Put the valve on the up side, dump RV antifreeze down the stem with the valve out, and you will be golden. Don't use radiator antifreeze as it is toxic and will go all over should you blow a tire or re-break the bead, causing danger to your animals and envirnomentalists won't be thrilled, either.

Grab a cold one, put your feet up infront of the fire and watch it snow....the tires will be cooked soon enough! Good luck!

Don't try to watch the ice melt. It is like trying to watch a pot boil...it will never happen if you watch it.

Hmmm the fireplace, good idea! :)

The tires are thawing pretty good so far, they are to the point that water is running out pretty steadily, I went and purchased a kerosene heater with 25000 btu which is plenty for my 24x26 garage where I have the tires, it is keeping it at 65 degrees, so I will just let em melt and go from there.

I may be guilty of the same thing, just scared to look. We are seeing sub-freezing extended weather here in SC that is very unusual, at least for an extended period. I wonder at what sustained temperature would your tires freeze without antifreeze? We are getting down to high teens at nite and high 30s, maybe 41 or so during the day? tks

Herd,

If you are able to get the machine inside, I would do so, or at least open up your valve stem and see if you get any water coming out, you may be ok if you are in the 40's but I know mine froze up after about 3 days of 10 to 20 degree weather.

I hope you have better luck than me.

Your temps are rarely low enough to justify a full blown, anti-freeze filling, but still.... these years do come along often enough.

If you've been reading this thread, you know what to do. Drain some water out and get some RV anti-freeze in. No need to drain completely. Again, even a couple gallons per tire would lower the freeze point for you to be plenty safe.

Pure water isn't worth it, not even in SC. Sorry.

Mike, make the best of the situation,go on over to that new Cabela's store you got there and see if there are any left over bargains, from Christmas. I may take a ride down this week end,if the weather changes. Its about an hour and 1/2 trip for me,down 79 west on 70.
