Thanks again for all of the replies. It looks to me like regardless of the source of the sediment I still need to install a whole house filtration system (a good idea even if I didn't have that problem). I am also going to have a well service company come out and check my liner to ensure that it is intact. I know that they can be sleeved with PVC if they are not too far gone. Hoping for the best.

*****the close new well probably dislodged the dirt... I'd pull the filter out, and let water run at that point for a bit to flush the system.

*****Any change on the land can affect a well.
When I first moved here in 1966 I had a well drilled down to 55 feet and hit a good vain of water then went on down to 80 feet which gave me a good pocket of water.
This well produced 5 gallon of water per minute which is an extremely good volume of water for a drilled well in my area.

In 1971 I had my whole 2.33 acres re graded with a dozer.
A few days after the grading I ran out of water and the production rate of the well dropped to 1.5 gallons of water a minute.
When I had the place graded I must have cut into 2 of the main veins of water that was feeding the well thus diverting this water away from flowing into the well.
I have 2 wet spring areas on the property that weren't there before grading.
