Well Known Hazards of ATVs

My wife has been talking to the little guy's grandmother again, and she says there's good news and bad news. The doctors think the little boy is going to survive, but there are even more broken bones in his face than first thought, so it's going to be a long, slow recovery if he survives, and quite a number of surgeries. It seems that after the boys were ejected from the machine, it rolled over the little one. Incidentally, some of you may remember my post #128002 in the "Related Topics" forum on 4/3/02 when I asked for your prayers for the baby next door. This is the same little fellow.

The poor little guy has had more than his fair share of pain and suffering in his short life. As was proven the first go-round, the power of prayer is an amazing thing. He remains in mine.

Bill, the little fellow is eating and talking OK and they were doing surgery day before yesterday to repair bones above his eyes, then later they'll have to do more surgery to repair the left cheekbone. Right now, the prognosis is pretty good, but it's going to be a long time.

I have a neighbor in his mid twenties who gets out his ATV and races it ll over his hills and valleys
when there is a big snow on.
I've seen him make fast sharp turns and fast tight circles on steep snow covered hills.
I won't be surprised when I hear about him rolling it over.
The nut hain't got good sense.
He has a motor cycle too.
It will be a miracle if one don't get him the other one will.

The little fellow is doing better than expected. He'll have to go back for more surgery later, but has gone home for now, and happy to be home. Of course, I have some doubts about his mental capacity; he's already asked his dad if they could go riding on the 4-wheeler. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Thats good news Bird. Lets not forget that the auto presents a far greater hazard to life as not only is effort on your part necessary, but that of the other folks on the road need to fully participate as well. It would be foolish to practice complete safety with ATV's and tractors and ignore the fact that autos/trucks present the greatest threat. Everyone drive safe, observe the rules of the road and buckle up.

Great news, Bird. And it is good that he did not develop an overiding fear of the 4 wheeler. But hopefully he did develop an appreciation on the dangers. With an attitude like that, his parents may be in for grey hair at an early age. And Lord help them during the teen years.

Was out walking with my dog last week, down the road about a mile and walked past a young guy about 14 years old on a Polaris ATV. He had what appeared to be a 7 month old baby on the seat in front of him. He was riding up and down the road and through the ditch, back up onto the road. Wasn't going fast just putting along.

I decided not to stop at his house and talk with his folks, to mind my own business. Their kids tear around on the road all the time and without helmets, so I figure they are not into hearing from me about doing safe things with the baby.

Seems like I made a bad decision not to say anything and to mind my own business, but I think this is how those folks want to live, without anyone bothering them.
