Well Priming

   / Well Priming #81
I was on my smart phone and didn't finish my thougts. I was at my camp, where water stays in the pressure tank when I am not there. It comes out rusty when it sits, but so far has not killed me.

So 2nd homes or camps may go weeks or months, where a sprinkler I suspect goes longer.

Seems to me that, if power is available, connecting just one sprinkler to such a well setup with an irrigation timer and valve would allow the pump to cycle every so often while no one was there - thereby keeping the water and pipes fresh.

Added costs, and I don't think anyone cares for sprinkler. You want a sprinkler going off indoors, once a month? A circulation loop is going to also add to the cost. Also you may be able to use pipe not rated for drinking. Not sure. It is not meant to be potable water.

For the well at my camp, I turn the pump off when I am not there. I wouldn't a leak that cause my pump to burn up, or flood the camp. I just let water run for a short time. Not a big deal
