Well pump head fitting

/ Well pump head fitting #21
I just replaced my pump with new electrical cable and bore iron treatment as well. Pump is a 1.5 kW and total cost was Au$3700.
The old pump was smaller and only 8 years old but the foot valve was leaking so I decided to just do the lot.
It was at 180 feet depth. (60 meters)
What is a bore iron treatment? I know what a bore is in this sense, but I haven't heard of an iron treatment. Is it an acid treatment? (Sulfamic?)

Just curious,

All the best,

Peter

It is a Citric Acid. Yellow powder. He poured a 20 litre drum down the bore which I thought was too much at once. It supposed to kill the iron. Burns cuts on your hands like you wouldn't believe.

It seems others have covered the issue quite well. But I would also be concerned about the junction box. Clearly not for outside use, or use at a well.

This thread has been another great conversation stimulator.

Wonder if and how the original problem got resolved?????

Sorry everyone for not giving an update. The patch is still holding. I called some companies. Can't get anyone to show up. I may have to do it myself and use my backhoe to pull the pump. Guess the companies only want to handle emergencies so they don't have to compete with competitive bids? Going to stop in at the plumbing supply place and see if they have any recommendations. One company that I talked said he may have put in the original well and that he wouldn't have plumbed it the way I described. He said if he did it, someone else must have changed it. I highly doubt that. At least I know who not to have fix it.

Some patches last a long time. I have fixed many leaks in old pressure tanks by whittling a dry pointed stick and driving it into the hole. The dry stick swells when it gets wet and seals the hole very well. I have seen pressure tanks that looked like a porcupine with a hundred wooden pegs sticking out of it, but wasn't leaking a drop. Probably work on galvanized fittings as well. The wooden pegs seemed to last forever. But the bottom of the old pressure tanks would eventually let go, and the tank would shoot like a rocket through the ceiling and take most of the plumbing with it. You would be amazed how good a rocket you can make with 30-40 PSI of water pressure.
