I know a lot of you guys are electrically minded.
Could someone tell me how to make the connection from this pump relay switch to the pressure switch.
( Standard square D switch )
We have been running this pump full blast for more than 15 years on irrigation ( just using the breaker as an on/off switch ) but now would like to install a pressure tank.

Thank you

Right now your setup is: 240v -> pump relay -> pump
All you have to do is insert the tank switch: 240v -> tank switch -> pump relay -> pump

In other words, the wires going to that relay will now come from the tank switch, and the 240v circuit hits the tank switch. Easy peasy.

Thank you, just to cross my tees, I’ll remove L1 and L2 ( labeled this way inside my relay box ) ( these are my two incoming feeds from breaker panel ) and place them on pump switch as shown in my diagram.
Then I would re feed L1 and L2 from 2 and 3 from the pressure switch.
Sound correct?

Wait, something is wrong.
What you have in your hand is a motor starter control box. Your pump, if a 3 wire motor won't run without it, it's not an option. I also see one in the picture for a larger motor.
Circuit breaker, pressure switch, control box, motor.

Yes, that should do it.

To be absolutely certain:
  1. Verify L1, L2 voltage in current setup at relay box
  2. Open breaker (de-energize circuit)
  3. Disconnect L1, L2 in relay box
  4. Connect Feeds from breaker panel to pressure switch
  5. Close pressure switch (it should have a lever that lets you close it for testing)
  6. Close breaker (energize circuit)
  7. Verify current at relay box on new L1, L2
  8. Open breaker (de-energize circuit) before further work

He's just putting a pressure switch between the breaker and that box - keeping the starter box.

Umm second picture shows a pressure tank, pressure switch and the starter controller ..... Do you have this or is pict for example....
Sorry for the confusion, I don’t know how that picture got on there
I fixed the original post

I have already traced the wires, should be good to go
Thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions

You are going to want a check valve between well head and pressure tank otherwise when pump shuts off water is going to drain back into well.....

Something like this....

Thanks for pointing this out, I probably would not have caught this otherwise
