Well water suddenlly dirty!

I have the pump running through the outside spigot right now and pump, pressure tank and pressure switch seem to be operating normally the water is just dirty. I called my well guy that drilled it and he suggested the hole and to let the well run and it should clear up in a day or two. So at the moment that's what I'm doing.

My well started to silt up over a 2 year period. It got worse slowly over time. I thought it was just because we had very dry conditions. One day walking up the driveway to get newspaper I spotted a damp spot in very dry conditions. Walked over there and ground was soaking wet. I had to put down some old 4x4 to get Kioti 45 in with backhoe to find leak. 4x4 went so far in the ground they are still there. Since leak has been fixed we have had much less silting problems. Might be worth walking your well line.

My well has always pumped a little sand and that's just the nature of them in my area. The cold water was all that was problematic in the house. So with that in mind I installed a pre owned 30 gallon water heater tank in the well house as a sediment tank. Problem solved. I drain maybe a couple tablespoons once a year.

It only takes one nearly microscopic grain of sand in the washing machine mixer valve to flood your house. We got lucky and caught it before any damage and that's when the sediment tank was installed. Since that time I've installed a 20 micron filter after the sediment tank but there is never any sand in it that has a specific gravity greater than water.
