Re: Running Pool Pump only 8-12 hrs/day
All,
THANKS!!!!!
This thread inspired me to check my pressure tank and pressure switch settings. I thought something was needed because my pump would run about 10 seconds before shut off (pressure tank is in crawl space under the master bath, provides plenty of time to study the time while just sitting around /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif). I have always lived on a water well, but the pressure tank was either in a well pit or basement, so I never really timed the pump duration. Now with all the opportunities, I've noticed the pattern. So I checked the cut in and out settings, can't read the gauge, it doesn't go to zero when all the water is dumped, replace gauge. Check pressure, about 40 and 54. Then checked the precharge and it was about 20. Had to borrow an air compressor, let out about all the air (to check for water) then added air up to where it should be, and fiddled with the switch to get 60 psi cut out. My pump now runs about 45-50 /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif seconds before shut off. I know this is much less than the 2 minutes referenced above, but a 5 fold increase is pretty darn good. Probably added years to the pump's life, assuming so many years haven't been already taken off that it dies tomorrow.
TBN comes through again. THANKS.
