My wife was encouraging me to buy one after we had see a BX-22 at the Woodstock Fair Labor Day weekend. She suggested that I could sell the old Minneapolis Moline and some other things that were in the garage and around the house and have enough money to buy it without any financial hardship. I did just that, sold the old tractor, one garden tractor, and a bunch of things from the garage. When I had enough to pay for the BX-22, the garage hadn't looked like anything was gone and there are still 4 garden tractors in the back yard and some other assorted things. Her idea didn't pan out the way that she had hoped..... she thought that the garage would be empty and everything else would be gone. I am going to have to work on getting rid of more, so I can amass a fleet of BX tractors..... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif That should get her going if she gets wind of it... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Congrats, churcko.

My CFO says that I might have to wait until fall for my 4wd tractor. Have to see how the taxes some out. Always have to pay state but got money back from the feds last year for 1st time in many years (hate that; like giving them an interest-free loan). Guess the ole Gravely seal leak will hold until then. Won't have to buy the "hog" then until spring.

We always pay cash for everything. Never made a car payment and not about to make tractor payments.

I feel the same way now, but back when I couldn't afford it, it was the only way. Must have been nice not to ever had a car payment or a mortgage...

If you have money invested making a good return and can borrow money at a lower rate for a car or a tractor why would you pay cash and take a net loss and loose liquidity. As long as there is money to back up your purchases and the interest rates are so low compared to investment income I don't see paying cash to be a big positive. J

It is very simple.......... I own a tractor, but don't have that much invested into it and the small difference isn't worth the hassle of getting a loan. If I could have gotten the 0% finance, I would have done so, but it wasn't available when I purchased my tractor. Having your home paid for without a mortgage is a plus.... ask anyone here that is old enough to know what I am talking about. Some people live and work to make the payment... I live and enjoy retirement, without the payment. I can remember the days when I used to call the bank daily to make sure that there was enough money in the account to cover the checks that cleared last evening. I don't have that thought any longer and I sleep more soundly now. I can also remember days that there was almost no food in the house and you just hoped to make it to pay day without starving to death. Those were not good times, but I / we worked through them. The thing that I see today is that the younger generation has never known bad times like the older generation does. It might be a generation gap that is between us, but I am comfortable knowing that what I have is paid for and I am certain that there are a lot of younger people that feel comfortable knowing that the car is leased and as long as the payment gets there on time, they still have wheels. It is good that the younger generation is living on credit and many times way beyond their means, because that is what is holding this economy from falling apart... Just one old mans opinion...... your mileage may vary...
PS..... I can also remember 15% mortgages and double digit inflation.... Prices going up so fast that sometimes merchants didn't even price the item, but only the shelf where it was fast and easy to raise the price... Jimmy fixed all that with price controls... Now, please don't ask who Jimmy is....... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

For some reason that has always been important to me too...

Almost never had a payment. Then again, until about four years ago, we NEVER had a new car, the only new house we have had is the one that is not finished yet, after over 20 years...lived hand to mouth while the kids were in college for six years...almost told my employer to stop paying me and to just send the checks to the schools...

Funny thing was that we came back to this country with some cash in hand, enough to buy a converted garage with an acre and a half. We had enough to pay cash for the place, but decided it would make more sense to get a mortgage and use the cash for building materials. Bank would not go for it. I was looking for a job at the time...they said they were not intereseted in buying property, and they would have no control over my cash if they loaned money for the house/property. So we paid cash and went mortgage free. And lived in that old shell of a house for 4 years while we built the first part of the new place...saving money in the winter and spending it for building materials in spring/summer/fall...

Working swing shifts for the first two years...work at home, work at work...all nice memories now...Never took the kids on a vacation for about six or eight years...had to work on the house...the two little girls helping sometimes...love those pictures... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Gee, Chucko...if I could spell nostalgia I'd say you got one of us wandering down that road right now!!! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

So now I sit with one year of payments left on my 2002 Ford van...and over two years of payments left of my BX2200...all forced on me by 0% financing. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

And now I see the older girl and her husband in thier new-to-them, and very nice, home [mortgaged] and wonder to myself who is doing it right? They are further ahead than we were at their age in material terms...

Still, I always liked knowing that I could maintain my life the same even if I lost my job and had to live on less income for a long time...

Sounds like we share something in our ways of thinking. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

May not be long before you are talking about getting a second tractor! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
