When people say "things are not what they used to be" my answer is "they never were"

Thanks for posting. Seven of us lived in a Four Room Home. We took a bath in an outbuilding in galvanized tub in the summer time. We did the same in the kitchen in the winter. No runing water, outhouse, wringer type washing machine, clothes line, raised all our food except flour and sugar. We didn't know that WE were POOR, until we heard someone say it. In 71, I had security clearance to enter the logistical operations of Charleston Naval Yard. BTW, I was in the Army. The Main Computer was huge, probably 60 foot long and 15 foot tall. Thanks for listening.

Wow talking about the good old days sure got my dad to ranting. He was born in 1933 the youngest of 7 boys and described it just like your first couple of sentences with some add on's like sleeping four to a bed to keep warm and having to haul in ice for the icebox.
I could keep adding to the list but he also claimed that he felt no other generation will see the advances that his did from riding to school in a horse drawn wagon to sitting in his living room and watching a man walk on the moon, no telling what the future holds but we came a long way in the last 90 years.

Without a long winded explanation, my good old days were still better than you all's fancy stuff today. Yes I have all the modern conveniences, but my grandkids are getting fat/soft from sitting around in all the modern conveniences. They are hounded by the modern trends for diversity, sex ed, etc. I'd trade my stuff ( including this old body :D) for 80 years ago any time.

#32 industrial complex food production. Regular consumption of Roundup. I have not seen any statistics that say that industrial complex food is harming us but maybe it is. Lots of allergies, autism and AHD. But again I have no statistics to back up that feeling.

we were young and eager... had a dream for a better world ... our lives in front of us ... if we put our minds to it , nothing could stop us ... end poverty and hunger, achieve world peace ...

yes the past was better for us ... but we failed at so many of our goals .... it seems earning a living got in our way.

now we look back , see it for ourselves and feel sad .

but don't be, cause there's a new generation taking up the tasks and maybe they'll succeed where we didn't.

as far as life being simpler back then , someone from even earlier would have found our childhood life as "too fast".

we lived through it ,and are here today ( and will be here tomorrow ) ... I don't intend to get off the ride till its really over.

Back then we didn't have names for things. People did poorly, had the bug, were sickly, or were simply "strange." Now medicine can name our physical and mental problems. And technology has sped up the rate of change and knowledge awareness and amount we need to know in order to just get by. Hard to know if overall felt stress is individually greater now or then. Stress duration clearly longer now, on average.

The Good Old Days...................

Three old ladies were sitting side by side in their retirement home, reminiscing. The first lady recalled shopping at the green grocers and demonstrated with her hands, the length and thickness of a cucumber she could buy for a penny. The second old lady nodded, adding that onions used to be much bigger and cheaper also, and demonstrated the size of two big onions she could buy for a penny a piece. The third old lady remarked: "I can't hear a word you're saying, but I remember the guy you're talking about."

:laughing::laughing:

Actually, if you do a search on "glyphosate study" you will see that there is a large and growing body of evidence that we are poisoning ourselves. And as for #50, I am not a well traveled person, but I have gotten to know quite a few people who are, and most of them say that the US is not the best place in the world to live, for various reasons.

In general, I was happier in the past because I was more free. Just my $0.02.

Each generation has it trials and tribulations... we think know one has ever walked in our shoes and in the big picture this is not correct... we all have problems... just different ones.

One thing I've heard over and over again from younger people is they will never be able to afford a home...

Thing is it was not easy for most that came before us either.

I was making $2 an hour and my nephew makes over $10... both minimum wage.

This generation... at least the males has never had to face being drafted... that's a show stopper right there.

Then there is the communication revolution... we always walked to school... now the neighbor kids are driven... yet they all have cell phones with help a phone call away.

Medical advances are unbelievable too...

Time to get off my soap box.
