Were You Good.

I recall a couple of episodes that one of my own family members had with marathon doctor visits a while back. After days of probing, blood-letting, sample-giving and more, the final diagnosis was "no problem found".

Yep, Harv, I've been there. And we're not through yet. My wife had gone to one doctor early this month, has a small lump on her neck (or under her jaw). That doctor seemed concerned and promptly called a specialist to make an appointment for her. The specialist ran a tube up her nose and down her throat, then scheduled her for a biopsy, but not until this coming Wednesday; said he wanted another doctor to assist him with that, so we'll see. And of course she has to go back tomorrow to the one she's seen the last two days for more blood tests.

Kinda makes you want your money back, don't it?

Yep, I think we made poor career choices in our younger days; should have been a doctor or lawyer; only people I know who can charge astronomical fees for their services, work only on their own schedule (not yours; you can sit and wait), and provide no guarantee of any kind.

I think we're both being a little tongue-in-cheek about doctors, Bird. Down deep I know that it's just as important to know that nothing is wrong as it is to know the opposite. Just makes it hard to emotionally rationalize the money you just spent. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif (There. Have I saved face in front of the doctors on this board? /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif)

The career I wish I had chosen is "TV weatherman". They make wild guesses about what's coming up, are usually wrong and continue to get paid anyway. /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

I like to give my guys (forecasters) a hard time about that too. If they have a 50% accuracy rate they get a satisfactory rating. I tell 'em as a tech if I was only right half the time, they'd be calling for my head. In their defense though - one day I was riding one of 'em real hard and he called me over, sat me down in front of the screen, and showed me all the variables of what could occur in the next 24hrs. "now" he said, "you tell me which to choose" .... It boils down to years of experience needed in the same office to be able to make an educated guess of which variables are most likely to happen. There were so many - I sure didn't even hazard a guess. But they are getting a lot better at warnings of severe weather - and that's a prime focus, because that's what kills people and causes damage - warnings are a prime reason the NWS exists.
(I usually get my forecasts from the TV in the a.m. like everybody else) ....and (my opinion) nobody can give an ideal accurate forecast more than 24hrs in advance, the atmosphere is just too fluid.

Thomas, it's been so long I'd almost forgot you asked to let you know how my wife's doing. Whew, since the last time I mentioned it, we've been to the clinic on 10 different days; she's had many blood tests, several x-rays, one sonogram, one biopsy, one CAT scan, several prescriptions for pain medication and antibiotics, another CAT scan scheduled for this coming Thursday, and another blood test scheduled for this coming Monday. And the doctor thinks (says he can't prove it) that she has an E Coli infection of the gastrointestinal tract; says there have been several in the county in recent weeks and they're proving difficult to treat. At any rate, I've been a bit concerned about her, and I've been chief cook and bottle washer around here lately. The good news is that the blood count is very slowly getting better, and she even decided she was going to cook dinner last night (had enough of my cookin' I guess)./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

And her 94 year old mother is having a pacemaker installed in the morning.

Bird
My father-in-law lived with us the last 2 years of his life. The second time my wife had a meeting and wasn't there for supper when I said I would make supper for the two of us he said if we went out to eat he would buy. I asked him was it my cooking and he just smiled. JIM
