Wife and I jumped in the car and decided to about a week long road trip down the coast. We are having a little heat wave we thought the ocean would be good and also get away from the smoke. Got to Seaside OR last evening and enjoyed the beach sunset. A little bit of smoke helped.

After dark strong winds picked up from the east (not common here) and blew in heavy smoke. Our hotel lost power for several hours and now this morning we a socked in with heavy smog.

Since we have no hard plans or reservations, we are trying to figure out whether to continue down the coast or go elsewhere but it doesn't appear we can escape the smoke for 100s if not a thousand miles.

It's what, an 8 hour flight to Honolulu? :D

A flight was a consideration... trying to avoid wearing a dang mask. Now we have to... even when no one is around because of the smoke. Can't win!

Keep heading South, down here in San Diego County it's a misty 71 F at nearly noon. There have been a couple of fires in the area but this should help. Unless the Santa Anas kick in tonight or tomorrow.

Well we bagged it... decided it was a false start to head south, and drove back up to Long Beach, WA today where the smoke was 'lighter' but realized our rear license plate was missing! Long story but it was recently torn off in a carwash and we snapped it back on. Apparently not well enough!

Anyways noticing it missing in Long Beach was a bit of a blessing as we able to drive to the nearest Dept of Licensing and got new plates. If we would have continued south, we likely would have been pulled over 'out of state' with no rear plate, and in a big mess. Tonight we continued for home and had a rear tire fail just before home! Wasn't meant to be!

I figure we would try again in a few weeks while we monitor the weather.

So much for my vacation as I canceled it last week due to work, and now this week due to weather.

It was pretty bad about 30 miles east of Long Beach.
