Wow, that is crazy. Sky seems to look the same red in all directions and dark. Strange times indeed.

Smoke a little better at home but we cannot see the mountains across the water 5mi away. I guess the bright side... at least I'm not paying for a hotel room, to look at and smell the smoke and don't have to wear a mask.

Thick smoke and ash Monday night, bit better last night. First time in a long while that we slept with all the windows closed. Have a really good electronic air cleaner in the HVAC system. It did its job well.

That's a real shame, Mark. The coast drive down into northern CA can be spectacular. I don't know how I've been so fortunate here - I knock on wood. Both grsthegreat & Cougsfan have emailed me - asking how I'm doing with the smoke
So far - not a wisp of smoke or ash. Not even the tiniest of smoke smell. We had a wind storm starting on Monday. Winds coming out of the NE. May have blown all the smoke that way( to the SW ) before getting here.
The wind storm was only minor here ( 18mph max ) but it did cause a 46 hour power outage. So.... somewhere in this general area it was much worse.
That is, far and away, the very longest power outage I've ever seen here in 38+ years. Fortunately - everything in the freezer stayed frozen.
I also realize it's only time. Wind out of the NE is VERY unusual here. When things return to normal our wind comes out of the SW. I will have smoke then.

I know several people in Stayton, so far only one I know personally has lost anything but several are close... Yesterday it was dark and odd, today red and odd since I work further north... Monday night's wind was extreme, my junk fair'd well but there are lots of trees and branches down everywhere...

Heard this morning that the fire near Bonney lake is still at 20% containment, East Pierce fire has put out around 70 requests for assistance. No additional assistance yet. This indicates that all fire fighting resources in the western U.S. are currently deployed. Its getting pretty scary. Monday 300 thousand acres burned in Washington alone.

Willamette Valley air quality has been, is and will be very bad for a few more days. EXTREME is the word. On a scale of 1-500, it has been 450-480, very dangerous with ash all over the place.
Severe damage in lower west side of the cascades and into the willamette valley.Major evacuations, considerable loss of life, destroyed homes, businesses and towns.

Well - up until yesterday afternoon we enjoyed fresh air here in north eastern WA state. Then, as predicted, the weather returned to normal and the winds came out of the SW. Now it's hazy, smoky, fine ash - a real play on Dante's Inferno. The Taco Wagon has a fine coating of ash this morning.
With all the past wildfires in Ea OR & northern CA - you wouldn't think there is much left to burn. Fortunately - I didn't have the windows open and the fans on, here at the house. So......for now, the air inside is good.
