Tractor
John deere 5065e
Ok so I became a member a year or so ago, and even after reading all the mostly bad reviews about the e series deere melting fuel tanks etc I truly believe bad news travels faster than good , and think that there are good bad and ugly with all tractors in some form or fashion. And all though you here of a few cases with problems there are probably plenty of e series out there that have been great performers with no issues .knowing this I finally signed the paperwork today on a new john deere 5065e with a 553 loader and power reverser tranny .loaded rear tires.I felt like a kid at Christmas! So in a nutshell im looking for current owners of this model tractor or similar to share good matched implements for this machine since this is my first tractor I will need to acquire all attachments one piece at a time. Im really interested in a good disc for this tractor and will also need a well matched bush hog .any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. Also any tips using draft control would be helpful thanks in advance. Ps.waiting for tires to be filled and should have the tractor by the weekend to post some pics.

First thing to do, not once, not twice, but AT LEAST 3 times is rear the owners manual. I simply do not understand why people that are not familiar with a machine refuse to do this. :confused3: I'm not saying that you are one of these people, but read it and you will save yourself a lot of potential problems and questions.

We read many many times questions that are answered in the owners manual. How often do I grease the tractor, what kind of oil should I use, are a couple of examples.

All things that are answered in the owners manual.

Read the owners manual, you will find that you will have fewer questions and that you will know more than many others when completed.

Good luck:thumbsup:

Brian, spot on. For a long time I thought a lot of the questions here came from new owners of used equipment who had not received the owners manual when they bought their tractors. I've had my Kubota for five years and still find answers in the owners manual.

Walton Farmer - I think you are close enough to Brown Equipment to consider one of their disk harrows &/or rotary cutters. I wish I were. From what I've read here and checking their web site - they make really HD implements.

Your owners manual will go into depth on how & when to use draft control. I've tried it with my bottom plow but so many rocks & bedrock its really not of any benefit for me.

Congrats on the new tractor!

Since you are starting out from scratch as far as implements go, I would make it a point to only purchase ones that are QH compatible. (Aside from those that attach to the draw bar of course). Cat II implements are HEAVY and there is no horsing them around.

Second recommendation would be to get Top-N-Tilt. (I have purchased my last two sets from Brian who posted earlier in this thread and have been very satisfied)

I switch out implements quite often and the QH/TNT combination turns this once aggravating chore into a breeze. No matter how the implement is setting, you can grab it with this combo. Flip the handles up on the QH before you get into the tractor, hook up to the implement get back out and lower the handles. It fast, easy and very safe.

I have an Athens disc and chisel plow and like them very much, but the Brown equipment oosik mentioned are also very good. If you elect to go with a chisel plow, I highly recommend the gauge wheels.

How many rear remotes did you get? The more the merrier but you would need at least three to have the TNT hooked up constantly and one extra to run the hydraulics on the disc etc.

Looking forward to pictures!

I only added one more set to the rear it comes with one standard so know I have two sets of rear remotes .I am picking up the tractor
tomorrow and will check out the quick hitch and some attachments. So I know how long it will take me to save up and what will be the first on the list to get. I cant wait to use it I guess the first thing I will do is boxblade the driveway since i do already have access to one. Thanks for the info.also will be reading the manual as yall mentioned. Im used to reading more post on here than posting one myself. I dont have a computer and am doing this from my smartphone which seems to be pretty tough.wish i had a full size computer with bigger screen and buttons haha. But i will make due with what i got and will some how figure out how to post the pics this weekend. this sight is great and is a great tool to have as well. While im on here anybody know what a good size off set plow would be for this size tractor? Dont know if i mentioned it or not but it is the mfwd model 5065e

If you have confidence in your local JD dealer - talk to him about a plow. Man, there are more types, sizes and configurations than you can shake a stick at. It will depend upon what you plan on doing, what soil type & of course, how deep your pockets are. I know JD makes many and they are not junk. Ask your dealer for local contacts who have any type of implement you might need and see what they are using and what they have to say.

You know, I just realized - you are posting using a smart phone. I think by now - if I was using one of those tiny things - it would be way out in the pucker brush. I would say you are doing well and have a lot of patience.

I have a single bottom moldboard plow. Holdover from when I had a much smaller tractor. All it does here is bring up big rocks!!! I mainly till any fields with a Land Pride disc harrow. At least it rolls over the big rocks - kind of.

My suggestion on implements - go slow on purchases and ask a lot of questions. Mistakes on implements for your size tractor will be expensive.

I think a three bottom plow is a good match for it. A 6' Bush Hog works good but I am sure an 8' pull type would be fine also. An 8' pull type disk would be a good match I think. A 10' might not be too bad but could be pushing in some soils.

Well here she is on the way home and there's my youngest son and let me tell you he was just as happy as me to see that tractor. The only thing I dont have yet that came with the tractor is the brush gaurd the salesman says i should be able to swing by sometime this week to pick it up. I was not going to wait just for that used it to box blade the drive and did some light hush hogging for a neighbor with his bush hog and man it was all I had hoped it to be really impressed so far

Looks great.
What is the square bracket for on the right side of the FEL arm? Looks a bit clunky for Deere.

That should be what u put the loader stand into to hold loader in place when detaching from tractor. Have not removed loader yet but watched a video and the piece of silver metal you see in pic just below square bracket will slide out and is used as a stand/prop to hold loader in upright position.
