Re: What痴 the opinion on Lowe痴 Craftsman tools.

BE aware.... Craftsman line of tools are now marketed by STANLEY/BLACK AND DECKER....

Yes "Sears" did bring in some tools from China (bad move of their part) ... Since Sears no longer has control of the Craftsman name who knows where it is going...

I am under impression the things that were traditionally manufactured in US (sockets sets/wrench sets/Ect:) will be still manufactures in US... BUT some real research may be in order of future purchases...

Sears doesn't make a number of their house brands. Kenmore is actually Whirlpool and Craftsman was made by a couple different companies. Last I knew Sears was using Apex to make most of their hand tools (sockets and wrenches). Apex moved production of Craftsman tools to China years ago, long before it was sold to Stanley. At one point in time Stanley actually made Craftsman tools for Sears. Stanley B&W has said they plan on moving production back to the US. I think it's up in the air as to what. Right now it's mainly tool boxes that are assembled in the US. Stanley B&W have moved production of some hand tools to Taiwan (probably for better fit and finish) but they cost more. I think it's a "time will tell" thing to know how much returns to the US for production. I'm thinking demand wouldn't be crazy for a higher priced US made socket compared to a Chinese one but would be enough to justify doing it, or at least having at least one line, say the Craftsman Professional line made in the US.

One reason to buy Craftsmen is most are made in USA, much better than the Chinese made stuff at HF.

Where Are CRAFTSMAN(R) Tools Made? | Tools Made in USA w/ Global Materials

All the tools I have with the Craftsmen name on them for 20 plus years are still going strong, I even have a Craftsmen dremel tool I bought back in 1994 thats still going strong. My Crafsmen snowblower and push mowers I bought 15 years ago run and look new.....

Most of it isn’t anymore. Even the stuff that claims to be is probably mostly made overseas. At least HF is upfront about it and doesn’t try to give you a false sense of satisfaction. I also disagree on it being much better. The new HF sockets and ratchets have came a long way in quality.
