The proper way to adjust a brush mower ("bush hog") is with the rear higher than the front, so that the blade only cuts on the front, reducing double cutting and the extra load. Finish mowers are different.

I totally agree. It also gets the spindle higher so it does not hit stumps, etc as bad.

My 6 1/2 acres of sand and bahaigrass makes sure my blades are not too sharp. The sand will eat a set of blades a season. But it does wear the lift part more than the cutting edge. The bahiagrass does that just fine.
