Last night at a quarter after 12 the phone rang. I answer thinking it can only be bad news at this hour. Some one on the other end of the starts slurring out how he knows that his wife is in bed with me. I tell him the only wife in bed with me is mine and he must have the wrong number and hang up. 15 minutes later the phone rings again same story.I tell him again the only wife I am sleeping with is mine and we would like to get some sleep. This goes on for an hour and a half. We have caller ID but it says its a wireless customer but I have the number, so I call the Sheriff. They check the number and know who it is but he is not home. So the search is on and this drunk moron calls about every 15 minutes for 2 and a half hours. I would have taken the phone off the hook but my wife has be able to be reached for work this weekend so it was a short night. I guess they either caught him or he found his wife but at 2:45 the calls stopped.

These are prank calls.
I had similar type of call from somebody on a Sunday morning accusing me stealing his 'sunday news paper'.

Did you let your wife answer the phone? I wonder if that would throw the prankster off. Good idea calling the cops. Wonder if they couldn't block that particular number.

Call block, it's a wonderful thing.

After a few calls I would have had some fun with the guy. I would have said, Hey buddy, do you want to talk to yuor wife. She's done with me for the moment. Then I would have put my wife on the phone to really have some fun with him. people like that should be seen and not heard.

I'm wondering if they did put a block on that number and it just took some time. I wish I would have put my wife on the line but she really didn't want to answer the phone. The sheriffs office wouldn't say who it was but they did say it was someone from town. Hopefully it is just a one time deal.

About 15 years ago we had problems for about 6 months with someone calling and not saying anything. If you hung up, they'd call back. If you stayed on the line, they'd say nothing. It would happen about every two weeks. I finally got tired of it and filed a police report and got the phone company involved, too. They told me if the person called again to hang up, wait 5 seconds, then pick up the phone and punch in a code that they gave me. It would be good for two months. Well, wouldn't you know it, the person never called back....... until the last five minutes of the last day of the court order. The moron called at 5 minutes to midnight and finally spoke. I won't repeat what he said, but it made me laugh hard because I knew he screwed up. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The next day I called the police, they said they found out who it was and "action" had been taken. Bad part..... they would not tell me who it was for HIS protection!!! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif But we never had those calls again, either. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

So, I feel for you. It is annoying to say the least. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

<font color="blue"> We have caller ID .

This is just one of several reasons why caller ID is not a good replacement for an answering machine.

Quite a few yrs ago, I was on a biz trip in North Dakota. Staying at the only motel in town.

Wouldn't you know it, some local was having a BACHELOR PARTY in the room between my co-worker and me. It ran well past 2AM. Several times we called the front desk, but they couldn't (or wouldn't shut them up)

After we checked out the next morning (about 6AM), we did take the opportunity to call their room many many times, and announce to them that it was 6AM and this was THEIR wake up call.

Sure made us feel better!
