Few John Deere's and one Ford 3600 diesel.
can anyone tell me what i am doing wrong? i was trying to take off my MX6 to hook up my disk, but can't seem to get the pto shaft disconnected from the tractor pto. i've read the manual several times, followed the 3 steps they suggested, but to no avail. seems the cover is supposed to slide back and then you pull back on something else and it should unattatch, but i can't get it to budge. can't really see what i am doing even with the pto guard turned up. any suggestions?

Hmmm, do you not have a spring loaded lock pin on your MX6 pto shaft? The pin should be pushed in all the way to release PTO shaft from tractor PTO connection. At times I had to beat on it while using some choice words, that seems to do the trick. Dirt and moisture cemented in the spline can make difficult. I have in the past used a wire brush to keep the pto spline clean and left a film of wheel bearing grease to avoid surface rusting.

JC,

if it's there, i cant find it with my hand much less see it. i also didn't see it pointed anywhere in the manual, but i could be mistaken. my old JD bush hog had this and it was super easy to take on and off.

That is the coupling I have on my woods brush hog. it is spring loaded pin with a graduated (specially machined) shank. It is normally locked with spring pressure. With a push on the button it unlocks, while pushed in I either slide the pto shaft in or pull it out. I have the same set up my KK-tiller.

it looks like the plastic piece that you have to pull back is warped. from reading the manual, this is supposed to be the piece that slides back to detach the pto shaft from the tractor. called my dealer and they said theyd come out wednesday to change the piece. dang Labor Day holiday:mad:

that's how my old 205 JD was and it was simple. i dunno why Deere decides to change it up on the MX6. sure did make life alot easier when you only had to push a button and wait for it to lock. i'm already having to replace the part on my new MX6 because the plastic warped it seems like and wont slide over the metal piece to unlock the shaft from the tractor.

thanks for posting the pics!

Yikes, I hear "Chaching!!" , can you not rip the plastic yourself now and later on put one in at your convinience?

JC,

i used a screw driver to pry it so it would slide back. dealer said theyd replace it for free since it was warped when they brought it to me.

God created tin snips for a reason. Use em.. If it's what I'm thinking, that plastic piece you're working on, is just some sort of darwin protection.

its not the plastic guard peice, its a plastic piece that fits over some metal piece that connects to the pto of the tractor. ill see if i can get a picture of it.
