Dan, you could make a video on how to tie a truckers knot and even a neck tie, put it on You tube with a link.:D

Dave

I found some on YouTube. None of the videos were exactly like I do it but here is one that is close. Three Essential Knots - YouTube.

The truckers knot is about 4.5 minutes into the video. The guy show how to coil up a line that is different than what my dad taught me. Both are good but I might try the one in the video just because it was interesting. :D

I do the first loop differently than the Truckers Hitch video, which is very hard to see, but is shown in the other link that was posted. To make the first loop, the pull loop if you will, is to twist the line a few times and then tie it into a knot. The loop does not slip that way. Not sure the loop will slip in the video but I just started doing the loop my way which might not be the best way. I also usually put in four half hitches to lock the load down. The other thing not shown in the videos I watched is what to do with the end of the line? I simply tie the end of the line to the line holding down the load . Tis a simple little knot to keep the line all together. Dang, sound like I need to make a video.

Later,
Dan

I use Harbor Freight 1 inch ratchet straps to transport 40 small square bales of hay every week in my little trailer. I got rid of my pick ups about two years ago, because of the terrible gas mileage, and I use my Explorer, which gets decent mileage, to pull a TSC trailer. I've used the Harbor Freight straps for years, and never had one fail me. I replace them every year or two, so I don't let them get too worn, but I gave them pretty heavy use, and they're as good as any 1 inch ratchet straps that I've used.

Do you mean these:

?

I picked up a pack of 4 for $6 at the last HF sidewalk sale, have used them often for a month and like them.

Oh, just a tip...when I get any new tiedown straps, be they the ratchet type or the friction buckle type, I always tie a knot or two in the free end of the strap. It is so much easier to do that than it is to rethread the free end when you pull it too far.

Thanks for the tip, I loaned out my cam lock straps and they came back seperated, what a pain to put back together! I like your JD green straps.
