All,
I have recently come across two options which seem to have what I would want. They are around 30HP and more of the utility compact tractor as opposed to a subcompact tractor. Should work great for my needs of brush hogging my smaller field of 3acres 3 times a year, small food plotting, and the occasional moving of smaller things. These are being sold through a dealer in the area (kind of a small time shop though so would not be my actual dealer I go to for maintenance). The owner stated they are both in good overall condition. The Kioti has slightly better condition for appearance but neither have any rust. He wants 8500ish for each. I understand it really depends where you live and these are about as cheap as I have come across for this size/family of tractor in the above condition. What are your thoughts?

Both look good. Find out the hours on them and try them out. Read reviews on them. 3o hp can get a lot of work done.

Both have 1000ish hours on them. Tried reviews. Couldn't really find to much info on either.

My first 600 hours were spent on a Deere/Yanmar JD750. Simple, robust design. Very easy to work on. If I remember correctly, the ROPS did not fold, which may be an issue if you intend to garage store.

Deere with clutch/gear may not have a low speed necessary for a roto-tiller. Check this if important to your food plot plans. Will put a single 12" or 14" moldboard plow easily.

Fair asking price, which may be negotiable down $1,000 - $1,500 when snow is on the ground.

Don't mind the garage thing as I actually have an extremely tall garage built for tractors. As for rototilling that is a negative if it can't do that But if it can pull a 6ft disc maybe that would work?

You may be able to pull a Disc Harrow with 18" diameter pans, the lightest Disc Harrow which will smooth 12" plow furrows.

Disc Harrows are Secondary Tillage implements. Plows are Primary Tillage implements. Disc Harrows are poor at breaking sod until the pans are minimum 22", better 24", in diameter.

The Deere may have a low enough first gear for a roto-tiller. Ask the dealer. Deere may have a two-range gear transmission. My JD750 did; 2 X 4.

Looking at the Deere again, looks like it has turf tires, which may be too wide to fit in the furrow of a 12" or 14" moldboard plow. Consider a Disc Plow, (which is NOT a Disc Harrow) which does not require the right rear wheel to be in a plow furrow.

My JD 870 ground speed decal says it will do 0.9 mph in first gear at 2600 rpms. One would hope can rototill with that. My 870 has 3 gear ranges and 3 gears for a total of 9 forward and 3 in reverse.

My 30 hp NH TC30 that I rototill with- (5 ft tiller) is all done in M 1st. It does a better job than using my two lowest gears (L 1st, L 2nd). RPM is at about 2100 to 2200 rpm. Calls for 2400 rpm- but I don't like it that fast. I have a 9 x 3 gear tractor (L, M. H).

I don't know John Deere- but I don't think you need a super low to till with.
