My husband and i cleaned out the barn and we moved these two plows, I call them the Red one and the Blue one, out fo the barn and into the pump house. Man were they heavy.

I will post on this post and the next one the photos of the Blue Plow. Can anyone kindly tell me the name of the plow and what it is used for. Thank you.

Here is a picture of the Red One.
The red one we took apart. There was a horizontal Bar and perpendicular attached to that bar is the plow. I didn't want to move the Blue one because it was so heavy, I hope you can see the Red Plow in this photograph.

The red one is a moldboard plow that turns the dirt over into the furrow made by the plow on the previous pass.

The blue one could be several things but I suspect mostly being used to cultivate the soil, and possibly to rip turf. The guage wheels help control the depth of the teeth. Interesting looking connection point on the blue one.

beenther,
Thanks for telling me about the Red One. These plows have not been used very much. And I don't see us ever using them. Hopefully someone will come up witht he name of the Blue One.

Did you search them for manufacturer's plate? Might be a model & name.

Darn, they look HEAVY. Won't pull them with a Compact Tractor!

The blue one looks to be a deep ripper of some sort.

the blue ones are what we call a chisel plow use them to just rough up the soil like in no-till planting

Not any chisel plow I've seen. I'd say a ripper, but doesn't even have points that I can tell or trash wheels in front. Something European built for grapes where there's no stubble I'd guess.

I don't really think that it is a moldboard either. It has the three point toward the front of the picture. I think that it might be some type of hiller with one of the plows missing. Also I wonder what the clevis looking thing is one the right? But then I don't know because I have never seen anything like it before. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I think you are right there, as I didn't think the 3pt bar was connected, but just laying there next to it. But I see what you mean. If it's a moldboard, there are other parts missing as well. So - its up for grabs.
Gotta wonder about those french inventions, but suspect they are specific to the needs of hillside farming and either grapes or olives.
Good to see the pics of different tools.
