A ballast box is a poor investment = use an implement or attachment instead.
Not really,I have a kubota 1,000 lbs ballast box I use quite often. It is more compact than my other implements, and easier to attach.coobie

I do have one attachment that I no longer use. A three point trailer hitch bracket. I do not use because when you load the back of a trailer the hitch will pivot up. I use an adapter for my bucket that works great for my needs, also is faster on and off.

That's an easy one. The box blade. It's been a total waste and I'm giving it to my brother now that he's just bought a place. I've learned that I can do more with my loader bucket then I can with the box blade.

Eddie
Wow, That is a first. I have never owned a box blade cause my thinking has always been the same as yours Eddie.

3 pt disc. I bought a pull type that is a couple ft wider and pulls half as hard, doing twice as good of job on each pass (and only cost me $100). 3 pt discs are all junk in my opinion. Way quicker on and off also just with a single pin for the pull type, and I can use it with my antique, pre-3pt tractors. Unless you have to trasport over road regularly or are just doing very small areas, dont waste your money on a 3 pt.

On the flip side, now after 20 some years I have a ballast box and a set of FEL forks and they are not going anywhere soon. After living at the same location for many years my BH and PHD do not get used near as much as when I first bought the place but they sure got used in years past. Do I really need the BH and PHD now, No, but I am not going to get rid of them either.
My wife questioned our need for another BH last year when I traded in our other tractor and BH. My answer was the kids will need it, plus a shovel handle no longer fits in my hands for any long period of time.:D

For me its the rear 6' blade. It has it's purpose and I can use it if needed, but I find the box blade more practical.
I have a FEl front blade tiller and a back hoe so have no need for either a rear blade or box blade.

If you have a fel you don't need a box blade .
If you have a box blade you still need or could use a fel.
