Wow,!!! rScottty,

That was a battery tutorial. Thanks. I just wish that my Everstart replacement had a handle that makes it easier to remove and bring inside. The OE Kubota does.
Cheers,
Mike

It was probably 30 years ago the first time I saw a battery with a built in handle. I thought that was the stupidest waste of money I'd ever saw!!!! Now a battery without one is just as surprising!!!! :)

Just had to replace the batt in my 2620 a couple months ago, bought it in 2010.
I just went with an interstate from Costco (best pricing I found).
My battery would still start the tractor but when hot it didn't have enough juice to hold the fuel solenoid open and turn the starter over so finally replaced it.

And yes, the handle is almost a requirement to get the batt in and out on the 2620!

Changing the battery on the Kubota would have been next to impossible without the handles. The new Odyssey weighs 78 pounds and you have to extend your arms a long way to get it in that front location.

I'm curious what prompted using an Odyssey in your tractor given the premium pricing these batteries demand. They are very good batteries, but come with a hefty price tag (~$400) to go with it.

Based on your weight, I'm guessing you're using a 31-PC2150. https://www.amazon.com/Odyssey-31-PC2150S-Heavy-Commercial-Battery/dp/B002498NR2

Yuasa make very good batteries and not very expensive.

MOSHIP - Yes the invoice lists the battery as - - 31-PC2150S-R @ $399.95. I wanted a HD AGM battery. I had a similar battery in my previous tractor with excellent results. And I'm of the opinion - I can't take it( $$$$ ) with me when I go.

I'm not the OP, but I too would use Odyssey or North Star (same company) they are more money than the others, but when they die they'd have cost you less as with the other you'd be on the on the 1st or 2nd replacement. They are heavier than other makes and the lead is 99.9% pure. Just pick one up and compare, with batteries, weight will give you a pretty good idea of quality.

When I replace the standard wet cells that come as original equipment in most machines, I do the same as OOSIK does and buy a top of the line expensive battery to fit the space. For me, this is usually this is an Optima AGM type in their distinctive red, yellow, or blue case colors with the round cell shape.

I've never tried the Odyssey, but see is no reason to doubt their claims - some of their claims about lead purity are similar to the Optima. I think it is possible to manufacture a premium battery, and expect that they just cost more to make.

After all, If the battery doesn't work, the tractor isn't going anywhere. That in a nutshell is the main reason I buy premium batteries.
The second reason is that since in my experience they tend to last enough longer than other batteries it makes the long term price the same as a cheaper battery. And if that's so, then why not enjoy the advantages?

We're dealing with averages here. I buy what I do because all the above is generally true... not always true; just most of the time.

I've had Optima batteries that were duds or didn't last, and I've had cheap wet cell batteries that outlasted all expectations. I've got one of those wet cells in the Kubota right now. Twelve years and going strong. Although I'll say that during its astonishingly long life its wet cell fumes have corroded the paint and metal of battery box area and ruined two sets of battey cables. So has it really been worth the price?

Great philosophy by which I too do abide!
