>I've gone through it and found the middle blade to have been installed upside down which could explain the poor cut my father in law was getting.
Yeah, that could do it:laughing:
The old one i bought also needed belts and a new spindle, but after fixing those things up, welding in a few strengthening gussets and painting, it has been pretty good. My unit has no wheels, rollers, or anything else attached to the deck (just the steel skids built onto the edge plates), but i haven't found anything else necessary (yet). Even didn't need the chains that came on it.
>My only complaint is that it's a bit fiddly to get hooked up right on the tractor. It usually takes me 45 minutes or so to get everything adjusted correctly before I head out to mow.
Besides the mower height, the other main thing to adjust (as you probably know) is the 3pt toplink length, to control the "pitch" of the deck. On mine, i have a dedicated toplink, adjusted so the deck part can tuck up under the tractor as high as possible (deck has about 7" of ground clearance when fully raised). In this fully raised position the long belt does contact the belly of the tractor though, so i always shut off the PTO before fully raising.
If you do somehow find that the "tip speed is too low", do you have a multi-speed PTO?
