Wow.. 2 6v?series batteries?? i think they may be better off CCA wise with a good 12v battery.. probably cheaper and less room too.

Hey Greg,

Actually just checked the specs on the Rural King web site for the Fotons and both the 2 and 4wd are showing as having a 10" dry clutch.
Maybe they have changed them a touch since you saw them last or maybe they changed back to the 8" but haven't updated the website specs.

Yes, can see the batteries would create and issue but could be replaced with a smaller 12volt easy enough.

Color does seem to remind me of some of my older cars.

I recently bought 40 acres of hunting land, and I would like a tractor for mowing the front 10 acres and preparing the food plots for the wildlife. I have never owned a tractor before, so I appreciate any help. While my father loves his 1953 Ford Jubilee, I would like to purchase a new tractor. I am guessing Chinese is the only way to go in my price range.

Is this an acceptable price range, or do I need to spend more? I don't NEED a loader right now, but I am sure it would be nice around the farm.

Suggestions? Best value for the money?

Hey BT,,

40 acres... On Low Budget,,,

Hummm,,, IMO,,, It would be much better if you had a 30 to 40 hp 4wd tractor,,.

However,, I would not be afraid of getting a 224 or a 254 either in a New Kama or Jinma Chinese Tractor. They say,, that the 254 Kama,, is a little bit stronger on the Front End,, than the Jinma 200 series.

Foton,, I don't know much about at all,, maybe they are ok,, but I know,, for a fact,,that parts for the Jinma Tractors are very easy to get. Foton,, I don't know..

I have a little Jinma 224,, with 150 hours,, and so far so good. And I wouldn't be afraid of using it on 40 acres,, to begin with,, but would be looking to move bigger,, when the opportunity presented itself.

If you shop hard,, I think that you will be able to find a 224, 254 or even a bigger tractor with,, 4wd, PS, Spring Seat, Canopy, Wheel/Front End Weight,,,, in the price range that you are looking for. Check everywhere,, and everyplace,, that you can think of,, and something will turn up,, in a Brand New Chinese Tractor...

I bought from a NO Name Dealer,, and got mine,, at the Cheapest Price,, that I could find anywhere,,, and so far,, I haven't regretted it at all. But the Thing that I have learned the most,, is to go over and over and over the tractor,, Flushing, Changing,, greasing,, adjusting,,, before putting the tractor to work,,,, And Checking Everything Out ~ Gears, Clutch, PTO, 3Point Hitch, 4WD, PS, Cooling System,,, Before Buying the Tractor... If anything doesn't seem just right,, then don't buy it,, Period... Before I bought my little 224,, I took it out on the streets,, and drove it untill the Motor got up to operating temperature,,, looking for Coolant leakage,, and checking out the gears, steering, PTO, 4wd,, Hydralics,, and everything,, that I could think of,, before I purchased the tractor...

Some smiled at me for doing all of that,, and some even pointed and said that it was just junk.

Well,,, I can say to all of them,, that I know that there is Something Wrong With My Chinese Tractor,,, and I have looked it over from Stem to Stern,, Side to Side and Top to Bottom,, but for the Life of Me,, I cannot find what is wrong with My Chinese Tractor. Starts first time,, everytime,, Pulls good,, Revs Good,, Runs Good,,,,Hydraulics work good,, Steering is Good, and The Cooling System is Tightk,,, but I know,, that there is something wrong with My Chinese Tractor ,,, it's just that I haven't found out what it is yet,, however I will continue to look Long,, & very very hard....

Have a nice day,
Joe:cool:

10ac of mowing.. On a 5' mower.. that will be a 5-6 hour job depending ont he terain. on a 4' mower.. bump that a little.

Since you 'own' 40ac.. I think you may need a tractor capable of maintaining 40ac.. even if you only work 10 of it right now.

30hp -40 hp range is a good place to look. ( new or used... )

If the balance of the 40 acres is woods and other areas that you don't have to maintain, the 254 maybe OK. A 354 would be better, and if you can get one in your price range, you won't be sorry. As far as mowing the 354 will handle a 6' vs 5' of a 254. Focus on how often and time savings, to see if the 354 is a must have.

The same concern on food plots. Depends on the size and how you work soil. The 354 will probably handle an additional plow bottom or a 1' larger tiller.

For myself I have 60 acres. 20 acres of field are maintained by a neighbor farmer. Aproximatly 5 acres are low lying fields which I mow about twice a year. Maintain trails through fields and woods, along with allot of misc yard work (but not lawn mowing). The 254 has been fine. At times, the bigger 354 would have been nice, but would need to upgrade implements as well.

Now, if I needed to regularly work that 20 acres of field, the 354 wouldn't be large enough either.
