I have been looking for a ford 101,3 bottom moldboard plow for about a year now. In researching, I have come across an implement I didn't even know existed. It's called a disk plow. From the looks of it, it seem that it might be a useful tool for me. It looks like it would be a really good implement for making fire breaks for prescribed burns. I think the way it "rolls" the dirt, that it would be slightly better than a conventional disk for stopping fire in grasslands. Also, it seems that a disk plow would work a little better than a mould board plow where roots and stumps are concerned. Does anyone here have first hand experience with this implement? Any and all advice and information is most welcomed! Thanks

Everything you noted in your post is true. Also a disc plow, requires less horsepower to achieve the same width of cut as a moldboard plow. It won't work as well in heavily sodded ground though. In lighter drier soil conditions a higher travel speed can be used and a leveller result can be obtained by the 'throwing ' action of the discs.

The discs on the unit pictured appear to be well worn. Probably the original diameter was considerably larger giving it a more concave profile.

Allen, I'm in the northeastern most county (Bowie). PM me with what you are thinking. Thanks!

We had one on the farm and used it only for new ground. It would roll over roots and rocks. Soil has to be just right to work, to dry and you can forgot it.
