Re: What can\'t you throw away?

Beer, wow you guys got me on that one. I bet I have some beer thats pretty old. lol. I cant even remember when I bought it. I guess the garbadge man will have a few more items this week. I have a bottle of Crown royal thats about 10 years old now. It'll be at least 40 before I ever drink it. It was a gift to my wife from a patient who was in the Battle of the bulge. He fought with the government for 40 years to get his benefits. My wife helped him with the papers and letters he needed so he brought her the gift. Sadly he passed shortly after. I never met the man but I dont think I will ever be able to disscard that. Even though I dont drink it some how just doesn't sit right with me so I keep it in the back of the cupboard.... not alphabeticly /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Dave

Sure I could Jerry! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

You may not like it, but sure I could!! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

It's all based on the level of desire for wanting to get rid of the particular item. .........

........The more the wife desires to keep something, the more desire I have to give it away! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Well, you'd better start practicing again, because I think being cool is all in a person's attitude. And from what I've seen, you're already pretty cool! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: What can\'t you throw away?

When ever I have something like that I give it away.If it is not feasible to fix or buy batteries etc. When I give something like that away I usually lay it on top of my garbage and let the trashmen have it,they like to find stuff like that and generally they will some how find a use for it.
It makes them happy and I am happy.
I had an old push mower that the deck was bad on it and it had an excellent motor,I set it out with the garbage and the trashmen's eyes lit up like a child on Christmas morning.
Its out of my way and I feel good knowing some one else has a need/use for it.

Re: What can\'t you throw away?

This may be inappropriate here and I won't complain if its sensored.

Some of the Habitat for Humanity branches are starting up outlets to sell used building supplies. They get a lot of nice donations that really don't fit into the houses they build so they sell them at a bargain price and then buy what they need. A lot of stuff that would end up in the landfill brings in much needed cash. We are just about to open one here in Bloomington, IN.

Personally, I hate to buy brand new lumber just to make cement forms with. Contractors will drop off odd leftovers and get a tax break. Things they are usually glad to get are lumber, light fixtures, vanities, counters, cabinets, old toilets(!) and tools. Each outlet has their preferences so call or stop in to see about donating your stuff. John

John, Thats a great idea. I would have never ever thought of that. Do you know if they have a web site with the centers listed ? Dave

Re: What can\'t you throw away?

How about the old ball caps? I have them hanging all over the place. Every now & then I get in the mood to start tossing. A couple weeks ago I had a bunch of stuff ready to go. Waited a week or so for the garbage man & then decided I better keep half of it. . One thing I don't throw away is the beer. No problem with that getting old /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: What can\'t you throw away?

Dave,

The program is called ReStore. I'll try to attach a link to their listing. I think the listing is incomplete because it only shows one in Indiana. (3 for Michigan) If one of those 3 are inconvenient, call your local branch and they will tell you the closest. Thanks for your interest.

John
