Ferguson implements could be assembled/disassembled with a single proprietary combination wrench in 11/16" + 1-1/16" AF/Across-the-Flats. The Ferguson implement wrench shows up on eBay from time to time at reasonable prices because they do not fit common nuts.
Ford's vanadium steel was the best available in its era and I think it is a safe deduction that vanadium steel was used for Ferguson bolts.
I speculate that Grade 8, fine thread, bolts and nuts are at least as strong today, probably stronger.
I speculate that a nut tightened to show two threads on a greased bolt yielded an acceptable torque, not more, not less.
