I'm not a chemist but I know all the acetone I've purchased over the years has come in metal containers. A couple of these folks suggest LDPE.

I have purchased it before at TSC in plastic containers.

I use empty tap-magic bottles when I want acetone in a "squirt" bottle

Acetone "nail polish" comes in plastic containers.

Acetone CAN be stored in the correct type of plastic.
