OBVIOUSLY you need both.
Have your wife try to do something small with the case (an excellent machine BTY) like cutting the lawn under some tree low branches and let her experience the size difference. Use the "It's used honey, it won't sell for a lot and its awful handy to have around" line. What if one gets stuck? We need the other to pull it out.
When I bought the second (smaller) chain saw I told my wife it was for her so we could work together in the woods. Worked like a charm. The only grief I get is that she doesn't like me using "her" chainsaw. Maybe you should paint her name on the fender of the Kubota. . . Get her a cup holder . . . you know, make it hers.
