I'm looking to run 900' from the power pole on the highway to a box for distribution. 1 phase 240V for house, barn, garage, etc.

Current line is above ground & trees need trimming, leading to the underground alternative (right down the middle of a road so no tree cutting. Utility will pay for box & pad.

A few years ago I paid $5000 for an 800' run. That included all the dirt work, transformer, ($750), primary and secondary wire, conduit, backfill sand, meter, 200 amp panel box and breakers, a 100' feed to the house and the inspections. Above ground would have been $1500 cheaper. I did none of the work, I was out of town for a few weeks.

The electric company by me charges $7/foot.

I paid $4.00 per foot after the first 1000' of underground primary. Electric coop provided transformer between the house and shop so each has a good 200+ amp feed.

Many utilities charge on a pay back rate. So if you will heat with ele it can be free. In your case since you already have the service overhaed, I bet you'll PAY.

Yep utility just called back my cost will be $2450.

Seems reasonable for a 300 yard run.

Thanks for all the info posters /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The electric utility trenched the 600' run, supplied and buried the wire, installed a pad mounted transformer near the house and did it all for free about 6 years ago when we were building. The fact that at the time I was co-owner of a local HVAC company may have had a bearing on the freebie. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Geez,
You guys are lucky! SCE in Tulare County, CA wanted to charge me $24 a linear foot and another $24 per foot for trenching and conduit. That's from the nearest pull box which is about 1/2 mile down the road. My homesite is another 800' from the culdesac. That's $48 a foot for about 3500 feet! Do the math...It was a deal breaker when we were considering buying the property.
My nearest neighbor has solar completely off-grid with a generator back up system. He paid about $50,000 complete. I'm going totally solar-off grid and installing the same system. I'll be $125,000 ahead ... That buys a lot of batteries and propane and never an electric bill...ever.

Rewired this summer, replacing the overhead would be free, going underground was 50 cents a foot. Pad & trandformer were about $300.

I got the code requirements from the utility company and did everything myself except for the tie-in.......... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
