Since you say you have never had a cutter or tractor before, reading the safety forum here provides a lot of good info too. Don't put off reading it as it could save your life. I can't remember the thread, but there was one with very graphic pictures that will give you a whole new respect for the power of the machine especially with a PTO shaft. Not trying to scare you, but just want safety to be the utmost concern.

Well, I know the mystery wasn't burning y'all up but it was me. So... Mrs. J. called the NH dealer in the next town over and the TC 45 is a 2002. Interestingly, even though it says TC45 S on the metal plate on the frame, they know it as a TC 45 (based on the serial #) As new as I am to this, I'll ask more dumb questions as they pop up. Life would sure be different without the 'Net.

I think the gentlemen here are wrong about the "S" thing. I have a TC25S that is a 2000 model. My tractor is not a Super Steer though. I saw the "S" and thought I got lucky because I didn't buy one. When the dealer dropped it off he said that he couldn't find the exact model I wanted, so he got a close match from the closest dealer he could find. I got some really good upgrades for free. Unfortunately Super Steer wasn't one of them. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Super Steer or not though, this tractor has a very good turn radius. My front axle doesn't articulate as someone mentioned before. Unless that feature came after 2000, which I don't think it did, my tractor is just a regular Boomer.
I read my manuals three times in full and sat in the seat and did a Famfire with the controls before I even put the key in the ignition my first time.
These machines are great and you will love them, but give them the respect they are due. They can be your best friend or your worst enemy. The choice is up to you.
I think the "S" thing is still a mystery. If you find out for sure let us know.

Hmm... Maybe the "S" stands for "Shuttle-Shift." I have a hydro and will check to see if it has something after the TC45 on the serial number plate. I knew your tractor couldn't be older than mine because my number is less than yours. Mine's a 2001, so 2002 sounds right.

Hey Jinman,
I don't think that's it either. Mine is gear driven 4x4. I don't know what shuttle shift is so I'm pretty sure mine doesn't have it.
I wonder if it has something to do with where it is made. Something like an identifier specific to that plant. I don't know just a guess.

"S" denotes standard, as opposed to deluxe, meaning gear trans, no hydro, no floor mat, etc.
By serial number the unit does show to be a 2002 model.

That is the straight stuff. Even my NH dealer wasn't as clear as that. Thanks for the info. Cleared a bunch of salt bush and briar last night, it is an awesome machine. In Low range, 1st gear, 4x4, with the diff lock on she'll just push 'em over..
