What did Santa bring you?

/ What did Santa bring you? #51
We were down at the inlaws for x-mas this weekend. I got the ussual wool socks at such. They always get me great gifts that are always needed. But, this year my father-in-law hasn't been in the best of health. We got to talking about guns and such and he said that he had an old rifle in the closet for years. I told him I'd oil it up for him if he liked. Well, I had never seen it before and was suprised to find a Winchester 94 in the back of the closet. As I cleaned and oiled it up , he told me he bought the gun new in 1951 (ser# 1859xxx). He bought it for a deer hunting trip to Michigan. He had sighted it in and had shot a box of shells thru it and had another box of shells for it (the second box) in the closet that had one round out of it. After I got it all cleaned up, he told me that he wanted me to have it! Wow, what a great gift! I told him that I would baby it and keep it in the safe. I would love to use it to take a hog one of these years. It is real good condition and has only some light freckling mainly on the lever and underside of the receiver. And like I said it's only had a box of shells run thru it.

It's nice to see pics of a vintage piece in such fine condition, and decent wood for the stock. While I never had one myself, those have taken a lot of deer up here in the U.P. Congrats on the acquisiton and for having such a generous FIL.

I asked Santa for a new car, a new tractor, and/or a million dollars. All I got was a lousy box of chocolates! You can be sure I'll have a good hot fire in the fireplace next year!

Oh, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Wow, great looking old gun there. If the "freckling" you talked about is surface rust, you can use a trick that a gunsmith taught me to get rid of some of it. Flatten the open end of a brass shell casing, and use it to carefully scrape away the rust. The brass is soft and won't damage the metal or blueing, but will remove the rust. Keep it oiled up afterward and you are good to go.

Santa brought me a quad rail and some bullets for my AR15, some LSU shirts, a wireless router, and as a late Christmas bonus, our business bought a hydraulic top link and a post hole digger for the tractor. Best of all, our kids were all here to celebrate with us, including my son who is in the army and has been gone for the last 3 months.

I don't know about Old St. Nick but the Lord brought us 8 inches of snow! "I'm dreaming of a dry Christmas.....":D Now it's turned into 12" of muck and mire! Oh but we needed the moisture! I'm now thankful for the thaw so I don't have to break anymore ice on the ponds!:D:D

I guess I could have used some new "taller" feed boots! Maybe next year.

Whitedoggone, nice old lever gun! A good, solid, passed down firearm beats most things bought and given. Not to mention the thought from the giver! About the surface rust, I've had success using burlap and W-40 to get at it. I follow that with a soft rag (old t-shirt) and apply some gun lube.

For those thinking, "this thread is straying from owning/operating tractors and presents for tractors", just think if he puts a gun boot on his tractor then it all applies!:D

Got me a new (well previously enjoyed) 2006 Silverado 2500HD ext cab LT w/ a 6.0 auto & a 410 auto locker to pull around my Bobcat CT335. Maybe the Easter Bunny will bring me my 20ft gooseneck trailer w/ 2ft dovetail 7000lb axles with brakes on both and a 10,000lb winch with a tilt bed:D. Oh yeah and a new joke--- Whats the difference between beer nuts and deer nuts?--- beer nuts are $1.29 and deer nuts are under a buck:eek:

This year was really good! Most important gift was that of being healthy and being able to be with all of the family!

The "man" gifts were good this year;

-Toolbox (3 section Craftsman) more drawers than I need!
-Large tap and die set.
-Blackberry phone (I bought it for myself and my wife).
-GM factory nerf bars for my silverado.
-Airlift rear airbags for my silverado with compressor system.
-$100 gift certificate towards a tattoo that I have wanted for years.
-FIL has paid (with exception of airfare) for all of us to go to Disney for 4/5 days all inclusive.
-Socks, undies, etc.

Despite 2009 being a tough year, things ended up good. Being middle-class, I might as well enjoy it now because those of us that are won't be for long!

My wife suprised me by buying a BX 42 Wallenstein Wood chipper from the Kubota dealer here (Northshore tractor) , and the kids followed thru with Kubota hat , teeshirt and garage sign all from "jennings" on internet and some ATV accessories.

Tried the woodchipper out for an hour in the snow with a few tree limbs , then wrapped it in tarp and put it away till spring. Can't wait to start cleaning up my ATV trails !
