Removal of dead bodies supervision. At various locations around the world. I was in the Marine Corps (1968-1975, my job title was Meteorologist, but I also was trained as Military Police) I happened to be involved in overseeing deceased personnel. In the military you never know what you are going to be doing when it's needed.
Next I became a Firefighter/Paramedic. My first class for Paramedic was a full Autopsy. I didn't flinch when the Doc., made the cut. So I got to weigh the organs as they were removed. Three students didn't come back for the next class. In the Fire Department we ran an Advanced Life Support Ambulance. Did that for seven years, stopped counting bodies after the first year.
Worked in a Hospital Emergency Room, more dead bodies.
Took a break from dead people for awhile.
Worked for a Funeral home doing removals and coordinating funerals and the occasional disinterment.
What I learned from all that was I didn't particularly care for the living. Families and friends spend way too much money on funerals and fake concern for their dead. Most of it was a show for family and friends. Not out of respect for the deceased.
I worked with a guy who helped process the Jonestown, The Peoples Temple dead when they were brought back to the U.S. That was a sad time, he was never the same person after that.
Now all my friends call me when they need a horse disposed of. Three last year. Maybe it's because I have a backhoe.

Director in the most unethical hightech company I have ever encountered. I was losing my health. Enough said. I walked away to a company that works very hard on it's ethical image and took a 50% pay cut. Best thing I ever did for myself and my family.

Summer of 1976 I was a "summer hire" for an International Harvester dealership in my hometown. In case you don't know, "summer hire" equates to chief gopher, lunch-getter, trash taker-outer and all around servant in the shop!

All the bays in the shop had drains in them that gathered the old oil and hydro fluid and, through a network of 4" pipe in the floor, deposited all the waste liquid in a central collection tank. I had to run a power snake through all those lines and clean them out... Talk about a nasty, dirty job! Like some of the folks have said up-post, when I got into a bad situation at a later job I could always think back on that and say, "Well, it ain't so bad..."

Before I went to college I had a two jobs at the same facility. I worked kitchen duty in the morning and housekeeping for the rest of the day / night. Shifts were often 18 hours (which i was fine with). It was a home for elderly patients with mental issues, which led to some very interesting situations. The worst part was emptying the diaper bins (threw up the first time, then learned to hold my breath). The very worst day was when there were 2 suicides and I had to clean up the rooms (lots of bodily fluids and very disturbing). I was always motivated to go to college, but that job caused me to take it to another level and now 3 degrees later it's paid off tremendously!

Sand blasting, steam cleaning, and oiler for a electric motor/machine shop. My dad was my boss, and I worked two months in the hot June/July sun in South Louisiana. One day when I got home I was whining about how I just couldn't take the heat in the sandblasting helmet and Dad says to me, "You know that there is a cooling setup in the back of the shop that the other guys use right?" I wanted to kill him, but valuable lesson learned and I successfully complete college as well.

Senior year of school, working at a hydraulic shop rebuilding all the cylinders in the back of a garbage truck. Boy, does that odor linger.

i think one of my worst was while working in the maintenance
dept at a shovel/tool factory.
every few months the sawdust fired boilers had to be shut down
for cleaning. that meant after everything cooled,
somebody had to climb into the firebox (under this huge water
tank) and shovel out the ash, knowing there was this huge
iron tank above you sitting on the brick that made up the
foundation and firebox. i'm sure it was safe, but it was not a
comfortable place to be. and it was a bit dirty. (we wore
masks and goggles). and hot. as we cleaned the boilers tubes,
that meant most of the ash went down the backside, which was
only accessible from under/thru the firebox.
i was much younger and more nimble to say the least back then!
:D

Worst job for me was pumping septic systems and port-o-pots. I did this in an all black truck with no A/C or radio in the summer time. Septics not so bad however port-o-pots were enough to choke a magget in the summer. :ashamed:

We have four children. They all got summer jobs. Some better some worse. In general they complained why they have to have summer jobs. They were told so they know what they don't want to do for rest of their life. All have college degrees.
