If $ is tight I'd get the smaller tractor but with HST which you will LOVE. *Few people complain that their tractor is too powerful and gets the work done too fast.* The smaller tractor will probably do all you need done and the HST will make it easier to do.

I note the same loader is spec'd for both sizes of tractor. The smaller tractor will probably work the loader a bit slower (less hydraulic capacity) but still git 'er done.

If you are asking whether or not the larger tractor is overkill then I'd say surely not, it is not too much tractor. The smaller tractor is not too small for your needs. If the difference in $ is not a big issue, I'd get the larger tractor for the reason stated abouve between the "*" symbols, with HST.

I really think you will be happy with any of the tractors on the list but happier with a HST in either size tractor.

Best of luck to you in your future tractoring.

I got a 3400HST this past summer. It was a gift... (a $16,000 gift, read my past posts!) Anywa, it came from Erb and Henry in PA. At the time of the purchase we also bought a M5700, so perhaps the price for the 3400 might be a bit skewed.

The 3400HST's got loaded tires. I'm using an old (nice shape) John Deere 504 bush hog. This is my first tractor and I love it. I've got 21 hours on it. I use it for hauling logs, feed, cutting 5 acres. I'm planning on getting a bale spear, forks and Box blade. I also hear the not so distant call of a Woods backhoe. I've driven a lot of vehicles and I must say, the hydro tranny on the 3400 is great. The little bugger has plenty of power. So far it handles everything I throw at it. I can't wait until tomorrow...2 feet of snow! Yahoo!I get to play on the tractor under my wife's gaze...she thinks I hate plowing the snow and piling up snow for the kids snow forts. Hee-Hee...

Good luck on your choice.

As for the gear verses Hydro.... Don't ask... I asked that question awhile ago and it took 300 posts to finally decide that I needed to save the money (for other toys... I mean tools) and my wife said that she was not planning on driving it anyway and I'm not in a hurry --- I just put it in a gear and mosey a long.

Good luck!

Thats pretty funny. I have a good idea who contributed to those posts and what their comments would have been. :p

Also is the hydro trannie worth the extra money?

... Let's see... does a bear $h1+ in the woods? You only need hydro if you've ever had hydro. Cause if you have, you WON'T be without it again.
