Gas is our main need IF we have to run the back up generator in an ice storm, etc. It will suck up 25 gallons a day running electric heaters so just it would take 250 gallons to run for 10 days should the roads be bad at the same time out in the boondocks.
On VCI.net classifieds (local version of Craigslist) I see options as I do on craigslist.
Having a 50-100 gallon of diesel would be nice especially if doing a lot with the backhoe. When in the market for an old farm truck if you can find one with one or two open top fillers saddle tanks that is a good place to store 50-100 gallons of the fuel it burns.
The shotgun point is good to keep in mind for some. Do you want to have $500-$1500 in stored fuel in this day and time is a question one had to concern.
50+ gallons of gas in 5 gallon cans is a pain in the butt and back.:laughing:

Anyone know if Diesel reacts with plastic?
See lots of food grade plastic barrels on CL and wonder if they will do for a diesel storage tank? I could get a pump from Harbor Freight what do you think????/

Well, my 5 gallon diesel fuel can is plastic...works fine.
If you want to experiment, pour a bit of diesel in a plastic cup or tupperware...let it set for a day or so.

I have found a nice looking white 100 gallon steel fuel tank with a 12v pump and filter set up that I think was carried in the back of a truck. He states it is clean on the inside but I have not seen it.
The stated price is $200. Based on the limited info posted here does that sound like the price is in the ball park if it checks out in person. It is an hour away so I do not want to pull the little tilt trailer for an hour one way. I have not checked new prices.
The ad stated manual pump which is what I was wanting but can get 12v to it from the deep cycle starting battery on my back up generator.

I bought this 55 gallon Aluminum diamond plate tank at tractor supply along with the vented lockable cap, hand pump. Decided to make a pallet as a way to lift it up and place in the bed of my pickup with my forks on the FEL. The tank I chose had tabs welded on the bottom so I could screw it down to the pallet. I can get 4-6 months run time out of a tank. I got tired of wrestling those 5 gallon cans and the spillage associated with them. Looking back, I should of bought a painted carbon steel tank that would of been just as good and a lot less money.

I'm looking at a 50 gal steel tank similar to this one right now. I was going to manufacture a metal pallet and permanently attach it. I'm also thinking on making a stand at the right height by my shop. I can transport it to fuel depot, then place it on the stand. Use gravity feed to feed tractor.
LOL ok ROY I will remove my head from my ***** You are right my current 5 gal jugs are plastic too DUH....

Ive seen those large 250-275 gal plastic jugs with the steel cage here, and they say you can haul diesel with them...
problem is the DOT says otherwise...... it says something about not over 60 gal in plastic container or some such thing
I'm not sure id feel comfortable with a 275 gal plastic jug of liquid fire sitting in back of my rig either.
